2018-02-07 03:52:36 <Dispenser> brion: I took a few screenshot today and created the bug https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T186621
2018-02-07 14:52:52 <Stryn> why says https://wikimania.org/ says "Your connection is not secure" ?
2018-02-07 14:53:41 <andre__> Stryn, click "Advanced", see the reason.
2018-02-07 14:53:46 <andre__> (at least in Firefox)
2018-02-07 14:54:05 <Stryn> "wikimania.org uses an invalid security certificate."
2018-02-07 14:54:51 <andre__> The cert does not cover that domain.
2018-02-07 14:55:09 <andre__> Please feel free to report a task: https://mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug

2018-02-07 16:01:42 <Lucas_WMDE> We don’t seem to have any pre-announced topics, so if you have a question, just ask away!

2018-02-07 16:15:22 <Lucas_WMDE> BTW, I should also mention the new(ish…) forum we have where you can ask similar questions, but all of the time! :D https://discourse-mediawiki.wmflabs.org/

2018-02-07 16:20:59 <addshore> quiet ...
2018-02-07 16:25:43 <mutante> Stryn: wikimania.org was once owned by WMCH, then it was transferred to WMF back in 2013, that was before https-only so certs werent a problem. all it ever did was redirect to the current wikimania year, when WMCH controlled it it was setup to redirect to wikimania.wikimedia.org so that WMF could control the redirect each year. when wikimedia switched to https-only only the actual project domains
2018-02-07 16:25:49 <mutante> were added to the unified SSL cert (it costs money, we cant just yet replace that with LE, but maybe later). so in this case, that hasnt just broken, it never worked (since https-only)
2018-02-07 16:26:15 <mutante> there is a general ticket about "secure redirects" which is about fixing all these https redirects from non-project domains.. this and others
2018-02-07 16:26:36 <mutante> just wanted to let you know there is more story to it and it didnt just expire or something..
2018-02-07 16:27:09 <Stryn> thanks for answering, however I already reported it on phab
2018-02-07 16:27:16 <mutante> TLDR: this is part of https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T133548 like other redirects
2018-02-07 16:27:28 <mutante> oh, maybe can we link to that ^
2018-02-07 16:28:15 <mutante> that is the parent task and will fix it, but will take a bit
2018-02-07 16:32:06 <mutante> Stryn: please add me on your ticket or just paste the number here, bbiaw
2018-02-07 16:32:20 <mutante> (user dzahn)
2018-02-07 16:32:58 <Stryn> mutante: I closed https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T186717 already as declined as was done to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T164868
2018-02-07 16:34:16 <mutante> Stryn: oh:) ok! cool, thanks for reporting

2018-02-07 21:18:28 <apergos> d3r1ck there will be another one eventually :-)
2018-02-07 21:35:17 <drewmutt> Hey gang, I was wondering, before I throw out an RfC.. Is it possible to have the "publish edits" button a diff title based on namespace?
2018-02-07 21:45:58 <legoktm> drewmutt: what do you mean?
2018-02-07 21:47:22 <Hauskatze> fixed those repos to archive
2018-02-07 21:47:23 <drewmutt> There's been some confusion from helpee's about "Well, I want to save my changes, but I'm not ready to 'publish' them yet" I know it was changed to "publish changes" from a recent proposal, but was thinking it would be nice to have it as "save changes" in draft or userspace.
2018-02-07 21:51:48 <legoktm> drewmutt: well there was some discussion about it in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T131132 - probably best to create a new phab task for it explicitly, since there's a ton of discussion on that task itself
2018-02-07 21:52:06 <drewmutt> Cool, cool, thanks!
2018-02-07 22:15:04 <James_F> drewmutt: For WMF production, we'll say "no", BTW. Whatever namespace, including "draft", you're still publishing. Labelling otherwise would be very unhelpful to users, and arguably intentionally misleading.
2018-02-07 22:16:40 <drewmutt> Well, I mean, you're technically right, but maybe we shouldn't use the term "publish" when we refer to approving drafts to avoid confusion.
2018-02-07 22:17:33 <James_F> drewmutt: Yes, I agree that mis-labelling like that in community help pages is worth revisiting – but the Foundation doesn't meddle in community affairs like that absent serious legal issues.
2018-02-07 22:18:43 <drewmutt> I mean, I wasn't involved in the proposal, but I think most laypeople see "publish" as make "live" and google-able, at least a handful of folks in -help seem to think so.
2018-02-07 22:18:50 <drewmutt> Heh, how about "donate edits" :P
