2019-03-06 00:20:52 <Kadane> I am trying to get into my account. I typoed on the email to reset the pw and now cant send another request for 24 hours. Is there a way around this or a request I can put in somewhere to clear this up?
2019-03-06 00:40:32 <Krenair> Kadane, maybe try to trigger the form from your phone or something?
2019-03-06 00:40:40 <Krenair> (using mobile data rather than wifi)
2019-03-06 00:41:44 <Krenair> theoretically those counters can be reset but IIRC it requires sysadmin intervention
2019-03-06 00:42:44 <Kadane> Krenair, giving it a try now.
2019-03-06 00:44:50 <Kadane> Negative Krenair, I think it is an account limit :(
2019-03-06 00:45:30 <Krenair> Kadane, you're logged in while filling the password reset form?
2019-03-06 00:45:47 <Kadane> No
2019-03-06 00:46:02 <Krenair> Kadane, then if you inserted the wrong email how would it tie it to the same account?
2019-03-06 00:46:21 <Kadane> I think its tying it to the account name
2019-03-06 00:46:29 <Krenair> yes that much was implied, but how
2019-03-06 00:46:47 <Kadane> I do not understand what you are asking?
2019-03-06 00:46:52 <Krenair> wait are you saying you're filling *both* fields?
2019-03-06 00:47:00 <Kadane> yes
2019-03-06 00:47:01 <foks> You only need to fill in one
2019-03-06 00:47:10 <Krenair> don't fill both fields on the password reset form
2019-03-06 00:47:47 <Krenair> if you fill the username, the email will be ignored
2019-03-06 00:47:55 <Kadane> Oh..
2019-03-06 00:48:01 <Kadane> Well then thanks for your time :D

2019-03-06 15:19:44 <superyetkin> hello there
2019-03-06 15:20:23 <RhinosF1> Hi,superyetkin
2019-03-06 15:24:54 <superyetkin> any place to view tool requests and fulfill them?
2019-03-06 15:26:51 <RhinosF1> Not sure
2019-03-06 15:27:21 <Reedy> Are you meaning, people asking for a tool to be written?
2019-03-06 15:27:32 <RhinosF1> If you stay around there's tech chat in half an hour
2019-03-06 15:31:27 <andre__> superyetkin: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/technical-tool-request/
2019-03-06 15:36:53 <Lucas_WMDE> I think it depends on the wiki you’re interested in
2019-03-06 15:37:01 <Lucas_WMDE> for Wikidata there’s also https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T90870 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:Tools#Proposals,_Wishes
2019-03-06 15:50:39 <wm-bot> Technical Advice IRC meeting starting in 10 minutes in channel #wikimedia-tech, hosts: @milimetric & @CFisch_WMDE - all questions welcome, more infos: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Technical_Advice_IRC_Meeting
2019-03-06 16:00:02 <milimetric> hi everyone, here to help with any technical advice I can
2019-03-06 16:00:48 <CFisch_WMDE> \o/
2019-03-06 16:01:01 <CFisch_WMDE> Hi folks and welcome!
2019-03-06 16:01:19 <chicocvenancio> Not quite my question but this intrigued me. https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata/2019-February/012819.html
2019-03-06 16:01:19 <chicocvenancio> Could we create the properties to have the vital articles lists in wikidata?
2019-03-06 16:02:16 <CFisch_WMDE> chicocvenancio: This sounds more like a question discussed with the Wikidata community
2019-03-06 16:03:04 <revansx[m]> Hi. How can I add style="" to an entire wikitable row?
2019-03-06 16:03:14 <CFisch_WMDE> So either #wikidata or follow up on the mail thread
2019-03-06 16:03:40 <revansx[m]> for example: I know that I can write
2019-03-06 16:03:41 <revansx[m]> | style="" |
2019-03-06 16:03:42 <revansx[m]> to add custom style to a cell
2019-03-06 16:04:13 <revansx[m]> is it just
2019-03-06 16:04:14 <revansx[m]> |- style=""
2019-03-06 16:04:15 <revansx[m]> to add custom style to a row?
2019-03-06 16:04:52 <chicocvenancio> CFisch_WMDE Well, yeah, the Wikipedias communitues as well. I was thinking more on how the anthologies could work with perhaps multiple wikis having somewhat differing lists
2019-03-06 16:05:22 <CFisch_WMDE> revansx[m]: I think this shoud work |- style=""
2019-03-06 16:05:53 <chicocvenancio> CFisch_WMDE: that was originally on #wikidata with not much response and I prodded them into mailing list or wikidata itself
2019-03-06 16:05:56 <revansx[m]> ok. great. it does. thanks.
2019-03-06 16:06:28 <milimetric> revansx[m]: this is the best example I could find in the docs: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Tables#Cell_contents_alignment
2019-03-06 16:06:48 <milimetric> that shows both row and cell-level styles in the same place
2019-03-06 16:07:21 <CFisch_WMDE> chicocvenancio: Yeah good question, I'm not sure what's possible with properties. - As fallback there could be constraint checks implemented. So keeping the property more open and checking invalid values afterwards...
2019-03-06 16:07:24 <milimetric> there's an interesting |+ style="... syntax on that same page where you can add captions and other fancy stuff
2019-03-06 16:07:26 <revansx[m]> perfect
2019-03-06 16:07:38 <CFisch_WMDE> ...but thats just a wild guess, I'm no Wikidata expert
2019-03-06 16:08:24 <chicocvenancio> Thanks CFisch_WMDE, neither am I. But this seems like a fun project to understand it a bit more
2019-03-06 16:09:10 <CFisch_WMDE> chicocvenancio: Defenitly :-)
2019-03-06 16:12:50 <CFisch_WMDE> Soooo anyone else? :-)
2019-03-06 16:13:21 <milimetric> the host guide says something like "sometimes it's quiet, don't be disappointed"
2019-03-06 16:13:36 <mainframe98> Yes: Can I request a gerrit repository for a non-wikimedia PHP library? I've written one I'd like to use in an extension, but neither is currently yet available.
2019-03-06 16:13:37 <milimetric> hi Fisch, nice to meet you, I'm Dan Andreescu and I don't remember if we've met in person
2019-03-06 16:14:02 <mainframe98> The library currently uses my nick as namespace, and so far all I've seen are libraries that use the Wikimedia namespace
2019-03-06 16:14:19 <milimetric> mainframe98: would github or a similar hosting service be a better place for a general library like that?
2019-03-06 16:15:46 <RhinosF1> Hey, I left feedback on the thanks changes for mobile at Phabricator. What's the timeline for this issue? Also, T211490 is at code review. When should it go live?
2019-03-06 16:15:46 <stashbot> T211490: iPad Pro/iOS 12.1: scrolling is broken when editing mobile site in source mode - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T211490
2019-03-06 16:16:14 <mainframe98> It would, but if it is used in an extension hosted in Gerrit, I'd rather not use two different platforms. Also: I'm probably one of the few people who rather prefers Gerrit over Github.
2019-03-06 16:16:31 <mainframe98> Also, Wikimedia has great CI and coverage/documentation hosting
2019-03-06 16:17:46 <milimetric> mainframe98: if it's mainly used in the extension, I would say your request has a good chance of being accepted. I don't personally know any other repos like this, but I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. I was just thinking github would make more sense if you wanted your library to be widely used in the world
2019-03-06 16:18:02 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: Hi! Regarding the issue you linked. Normally the gerrit bot adds a comment, when the patch is merged.
2019-03-06 16:18:13 <milimetric> mainframe98: and I agree on the niceness of gerrit btw, it's great for serious work, and the CI is getting really good
2019-03-06 16:18:31 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: This would be the next step for that to be fixed.
2019-03-06 16:19:06 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: After that there will be a tag added that will show when it's going to be rolled out on the wikis.
2019-03-06 16:19:13 <mainframe98> milimetric: Well, I would have it published on packagist, so that should take care of that part. In that case, I'd go and prep the extension - I think I would have a better chance if I have something to show that it is used in. Thank you!
2019-03-06 16:19:47 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: Something like https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/view/3871/
2019-03-06 16:19:55 <RhinosF1> CFish_WMDE - How long would a merge take?
2019-03-06 16:20:14 <milimetric> mainframe98: yeah, feel free to ping me if you get rejected and I'll support the idea
2019-03-06 16:20:18 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: Depending on how long the review for the patch takes.
2019-03-06 16:20:28 <mainframe98> milimetric: I appreciate that, thank you!
2019-03-06 16:20:53 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: If it's n more complex issue it can take some time, since the solution could be more complicated then.
2019-03-06 16:21:01 <milimetric> mainframe98: I can see the case for having a folder to collect these things like php-lib or something like that
2019-03-06 16:21:11 <milimetric> so php-lib/your-repo
2019-03-06 16:22:03 <RhinosF1> CFisch_WMDE - Thanks for the advice, the feedback regarding thanks issues can be found at T63737
2019-03-06 16:22:04 <stashbot> T63737: Thank notification on mobile should support click to undo - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T63737
2019-03-06 16:23:02 <mainframe98> milimetric: It does appear we have a mediawiki/libs gerrit group, so perhaps that's an option. I know that Equivset is used both in core and AbuseFilter
2019-03-06 16:23:22 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: Hmm *reads*
2019-03-06 16:23:24 <milimetric> oh, great then, I just didn't know about it
2019-03-06 16:27:33 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: Regarding the feedback, if your unsure if you were heard you could try to ping again jdrobson again. - I'm not quite sure what will happen as next steps there.
2019-03-06 16:28:25 <CFisch_WMDE> But maybe someone took notice of it already without any further comment..
2019-03-06 16:29:23 <RhinosF1> CFisch_WMDE - I'll try that. Thanks for your assistance. I think that's it for today from me.
2019-03-06 16:29:54 <CFisch_WMDE> RhinosF1: You're welcome :-)
2019-03-06 16:30:41 <RhinosF1> Np
2019-03-06 16:31:29 <CFisch_WMDE> milimetric: So hi, yeah I'm also not sure if we might have meet somewhere already :-)
2019-03-06 16:31:45 <CFisch_WMDE> <- Christoph Jauera / WMDE-Fisch
2019-03-06 16:32:00 <milimetric> :) well, nice to co-host with you
2019-03-06 16:32:15 <CFisch_WMDE> Same here :-)
2019-03-06 16:52:06 <superyetkin> https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/technical-tool-request/ looks good. Thanks
2019-03-06 16:52:36 <superyetkin> is there any way to purge query cache on replica servers?
2019-03-06 16:53:21 <milimetric> superyetkin: purge query cache? Why?
2019-03-06 16:53:34 <Reedy> That doesn't even make sense, I think
2019-03-06 16:54:23 <RhinosF1> Is recent changes having issues?
2019-03-06 16:54:33 <RhinosF1> No Vandalism detection
2019-03-06 16:55:30 <superyetkin> Reedy: what do you mean?
2019-03-06 16:55:57 <Reedy> What do you mean by "query cache on replica servers" and why do you want to purge it?
2019-03-06 16:56:09 <superyetkin> I believe some of my queries are showing outdated results
2019-03-06 16:57:05 <Reedy> Depending on the version of mysql (or similar), there is no query cache https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/query-cache.html
2019-03-06 16:57:17 <Reedy> Replag, or data inconsistencies (or wrong query) are more likely
2019-03-06 16:57:26 <Reedy> Or MW hasn't fully processed some update, depending on what you're actually querying
2019-03-06 16:58:10 <superyetkin> for example, I have a query to list uncategorized pages
2019-03-06 16:58:33 <superyetkin> somehow, for some artiles, they show up there after the page is edited
2019-03-06 16:58:36 <milimetric> superyetkin: yeah, that's more likely replication is a little bit behind, or there's something else wrong with the data
2019-03-06 16:58:57 <milimetric> the query cache doesn't result in the server returning invalid results
2019-03-06 16:59:24 <milimetric> (if it exists at all, like Reedy said, I think we use MariaDB and I'm not sure if it's still how that works, but it's removed from mysql)
2019-03-06 17:02:34 <superyetkin> ok, just reproduced the issue now
2019-03-06 17:02:56 <superyetkin> this tool shows the uncategorized pages
2019-03-06 17:02:56 <superyetkin> https://tools.wmflabs.org/superyetkin/kategorisizsayfalar.php
2019-03-06 17:03:13 <superyetkin> as you see, it shows no results
2019-03-06 17:03:23 <superyetkin> indeed, this page is uncategorized
2019-03-06 17:03:24 <superyetkin> https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6lc%C3%BCk_G%C3%B6l%C3%BC_(Bolu)
2019-03-06 17:03:40 <Reedy> That's great, I can also make a page and not post the SQL query and tell you it gets no results
2019-03-06 17:06:01 <milimetric> superyetkin: I think what Reedy means is could we please look at the query as well? :)
2019-03-06 17:06:25 <milimetric> (I'm in other meetings now but I can peek around and see if I find anything obvious)
2019-03-06 17:06:42 <superyetkin> Reedy: no need to be rude, ok?
2019-03-06 17:06:59 <superyetkin> I am trying to give as much detail as I can
2019-03-06 17:08:17 <superyetkin> here is the query
2019-03-06 17:08:17 <superyetkin> SELECT
2019-03-06 17:08:17 <superyetkin> page_title,
2019-03-06 17:08:17 <superyetkin> page_len
2019-03-06 17:08:17 <superyetkin> FROM page
2019-03-06 17:08:18 <superyetkin> LEFT JOIN categorylinks
2019-03-06 17:08:18 <superyetkin> ON page_id = cl_from
2019-03-06 17:08:19 <superyetkin> WHERE cl_from IS NULL
2019-03-06 17:08:19 <superyetkin> AND page_namespace = 0
2019-03-06 17:08:20 <superyetkin> AND page_is_redirect = 0
2019-03-06 17:08:20 <superyetkin> ORDER BY page_len ASC
2019-03-06 17:08:57 <Reedy> It's empty on the production servers, FWIW
2019-03-06 17:08:57 <CFisch_WMDE> (/me has to leave now see you around, thanks milimetric for joining the meeting )
2019-03-06 17:16:17 <superyetkin> it is empty and not correct
2019-03-06 17:16:25 <milimetric> superyetkin: I see what you mean
2019-03-06 17:16:27 <milimetric> thinking
2019-03-06 17:19:14 <milimetric> superyetkin: interesting, so looking at just your example page, there is actually a categorylinks row for it, with cl_to equal to "Arşivlenmesi_gereken_bağlantıya_sahip_kaynak_şablonu_içeren_maddeler "
2019-03-06 17:19:46 <milimetric> superyetkin: so I'm not sure what that says, but is it some general category that's not visible or something?
2019-03-06 17:20:45 <superyetkin> yes, invisible
2019-03-06 17:21:25 <milimetric> superyetkin: so is there a way to get a list of categories that are invisible, and filter them out from the join?
2019-03-06 17:21:41 <milimetric> like, how do you know the category is invisible?
2019-03-06 17:27:17 <superyetkin> ok, I will try that
2019-03-06 17:27:31 <superyetkin> there is a template to make a category invisible
2019-03-06 17:27:51 <Reedy> "Hidden categories are automatically added to Category:Hidden categories. This category is specified in the system message MediaWiki:Hidden-category-category."
2019-03-06 17:40:06 <RhinosF1> Where can you request a users tools.wmflabs scripts are taken over by another user. There's some scripts That aren't being manitained anymore but are of use.
2019-03-06 17:40:44 <Reedy> File a request in phabricator, ideally CC/notify the current maintainer too
2019-03-06 17:41:12 <RhinosF1> Thanks reedy, what topics??
2019-03-06 17:41:45 <Reedy> Just "Tools" should be good for starters
2019-03-06 17:42:13 <RhinosF1> Thanks
2019-03-06 17:44:28 <RhinosF1> Reedy Tools not coming up as a tag
2019-03-06 17:44:55 <andre__> then add it later
2019-03-06 17:45:05 <andre__> do you have a specific user to take over in mind?
2019-03-06 17:46:03 <andre__> RhinosF1: "Toolforge-standards-committee (Maintainer needed)" would be even better
2019-03-06 17:47:57 <RhinosF1> No andre_ I don't
2019-03-06 17:49:11 <RhinosF1> T217789 is the phap ticket. Won't come up with Snottywong's phab Accounts.
2019-03-06 17:49:11 <stashbot> T217789: Unmaintained&broken tools.wmflabs.org scripts that may be of use - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T217789
2019-03-06 17:51:42 <andre__> RhinosF1, could you please be more specific in the task summary?
2019-03-06 17:52:02 <andre__> One specific issue per ticket. This sounds like random catch-all and never resolvable...
2019-03-06 17:52:32 <andre__> ...from reading the topic. Maybe it's not in the task description though.
2019-03-06 17:53:43 <RhinosF1> Andre_ what do mean by more specific? Some of the scripts they maintain Don't work and the don't seem to be active or able to fix them.
2019-03-06 17:55:12 <andre__> RhinosF1: The task topic is very vague. It says: "Unmaintained&broken tools.wmflabs.org scripts that may be of use"
2019-03-06 17:55:36 <RhinosF1> Andre_ What do you suggest it's changed to?
2019-03-06 17:55:41 <andre__> It says nothing which specific scripts it is about. Many other tasks could have the very same title. It's not distinguishable.
2019-03-06 17:56:07 <andre__> RhinosF1, to mention the name of a specific tool or script.
2019-03-06 17:58:24 <RhinosF1> Will change andre_
2019-03-06 17:58:29 <andre__> thanks
2019-03-06 18:00:08 <RhinosF1> ✅ Done andre_
2019-03-06 18:01:28 <FR30799386_> Is there a place where all the extensions and their maintainers are listed ?
2019-03-06 18:01:50 <andre__> FR30799386_: define "all" :D
2019-03-06 18:02:00 <andre__> A few are listed on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Developers/Maintainers
2019-03-06 18:02:08 <andre__> but not all >2000 extensions, no.
2019-03-06 18:02:19 <FR30799386_> PageTriage, FlaggedRevs are the two I want to know.....
2019-03-06 18:03:02 <andre__> https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Developers/Maintainers
2019-03-06 18:03:40 <RhinosF1> I've just realised your Aklapper andre_. Why do you get added to all tasks?
2019-03-06 18:04:16 <FR30799386_> andre__ Whats code stewardship ?
2019-03-06 18:05:05 <Reedy> RhinosF1: He likes having a lot of emails
2019-03-06 18:05:36 <RhinosF1> Reedy, ha ha. I was actually wondering that.
2019-03-06 18:07:00 <andre__> FR30799386_, something that I'd call "maintainership" and others call "stewardship" :P
2019-03-06 18:07:19 <andre__> RhinosF1: I just like getting mail. it makes me feel less lonely, I swear! ;)
2019-03-06 18:08:42 <Reedy> "I've got how many emails to go through? I need another beer"
2019-03-06 18:10:06 <RhinosF1> Andre_ That's strange, I assumed it was to do with your role.
2019-03-06 18:10:47 <andre__> Reedy: Cheers. I gave up counting all those beers needed.
2019-03-06 18:10:57 <andre__> RhinosF1: Maybe that's also true, yeah!
2019-03-06 18:18:13 <RhinosF1> andre_ Thanks for the help anyway.
2019-03-06 18:19:18 <RhinosF1> Reedy andre_ - Do you mind being quoted in future on that? I'll remove needless parts.
2019-03-06 18:19:33 <Reedy> Beer isn't needless
2019-03-06 18:19:58 <RhinosF1> By needless parts, I mean anything not part of the beer conversation.
2019-03-06 18:20:40 <Reedy> What exactly are you wanting to quote and where/for why? :)
2019-03-06 18:23:25 <RhinosF1> Reedy - Any time I think I need a laugh or Aklapper being in tasks comes up in conversation.

2019-03-06 20:24:25 <quiddity> RhinosF1, there's a process detailed at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Toolforge/Abandoned_tool_policy
2019-03-06 20:49:22 <RhinosF1> Quiddity - That only works when a new maintainer is known. We don't have a replacement, I'm asking for one.
2019-03-06 20:49:56 <quiddity> RhinosF1, ah, my misunderstanding, I thought you were wanting to become the maintainer, I will undo my changes.
2019-03-06 20:57:37 <RhinosF1> Quiddity - Does it still need to be marked as stalled?
2019-03-06 20:58:06 <quiddity> fixed! thanks again
