2018-06-06 05:30:44 <badman> Is there a way to download revision history of all "featured articles" of wikipedia?
2018-06-06 12:34:10 <Urbanecm> Dereckson, Reedy: Do you think some of you can reserve a window and create wikis that are waiting on creation?
2018-06-06 12:37:18 <Reedy> Have we got any/all dependant patches merged as necessary?
2018-06-06 12:37:25 <Reedy> specifically DNS/apache if appropriate
2018-06-06 12:42:17 <Reedy> Urbanecm: ^
2018-06-06 12:43:02 <Urbanecm> Reedy, yes
2018-06-06 12:43:44 <Urbanecm> It's mostly language project, only one is for a chapter (or usergroup, not sure)
2018-06-06 12:44:55 <Reedy> 5 of them..
2018-06-06 12:45:25 <Reedy> looks at tomorrow
2018-06-06 12:45:48 <Urbanecm> I'd like to create them fully, but I don't have enough buttons :D
2018-06-06 12:46:10 <Reedy> Could do them tomorrow.. Between EU SWAT and Puppet SWAT
2018-06-06 12:47:36 <Urbanecm> That would be great!
2018-06-06 12:47:44 <Urbanecm> Can I do something with it now?
2018-06-06 12:47:56 <Urbanecm> (just offering help, if wanted :))
2018-06-06 12:48:09 <Reedy> https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Deployments&type=revision&diff=1793964&oldid=1793939
2018-06-06 12:48:24 <Urbanecm> Thx
2018-06-06 12:48:26 <Reedy> If you can make sure all the necessary patches are in gerrit....
2018-06-06 12:48:37 <Reedy> Not much point rebasing, cause they'll likely need rebasing again tomorrow
2018-06-06 12:49:08 <Urbanecm> Reedy, ehh, your window conflict with EU SWAT
2018-06-06 12:49:10 <Urbanecm> Is it correct?
2018-06-06 12:49:41 <Reedy> nope
2018-06-06 12:49:45 <Reedy> fixed, ta
2018-06-06 12:49:50 <Reedy> Though, if swat is quiet, I'll start early
2018-06-06 12:50:08 <Urbanecm> Sure, will do and upload if necessary. Should I add patches that modify wikiversions.json as well?
2018-06-06 12:50:41 <Reedy> Maybe not worth it... cause they'll just end up being rebase pains with the deploys :)
2018-06-06 12:51:37 <Urbanecm> I'm not sure if wikiversions.json is going to be modified between now and the window for wikis...
2018-06-06 12:51:49 <Urbanecm> I think it is not going to be, so no rebase pain, but I'm not sure fully.
2018-06-06 12:52:18 <Reedy> There's a train tonight :)
2018-06-06 12:52:35 <Reedy> You could do them after tonights train... or tomorrow morning :)
2018-06-06 12:53:24 <Urbanecm> Ok, will do.
2018-06-06 12:55:30 <Urbanecm> I hope there is a script for train related wikiversions changes
2018-06-06 12:56:18 <Urbanecm> and I hope there will be full addWiki that will create basic wiki, so it will be more easy to create a wiki
2018-06-06 15:00:59 <Tonina_WMDE> Hello and welcome to the weekly Technical Advice IRC Meeting with me and CFisch_WMDE!
2018-06-06 15:00:59 <Tonina_WMDE> There are no questions left on the wiki page sooo anyone? :)
2018-06-06 15:01:10 <CFisch_WMDE> \o/
2018-06-06 15:02:11 <jmcgnh> I watch this channel, but never knew you did sessions like this.
2018-06-06 15:02:37 <CFisch_WMDE> We do :-)
2018-06-06 15:03:00 <CFisch_WMDE> jmcgnh: see as well https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Technical_Advice_IRC_Meeting
2018-06-06 15:04:02 <CFisch_WMDE> also then you might not have heard of the board where devs can ask questions https://discourse-mediawiki.wmflabs.org/
2018-06-06 15:06:56 <jmcgnh> Thanks for those pointers. I'm just a baby at these dev topics, but going through those logs looks like it may teach me something.
2018-06-06 15:07:35 <CFisch_WMDE> hehe, no worries :-)
2018-06-06 15:08:13 <CFisch_WMDE> Also, this is not only for "dev pros" - in general we're just happy if we can help. :-)
2018-06-06 15:14:22 <jmcgnh> Let me present one difficulty I encountered. I have a set of bulk edits I wanted to perform that involve inserting a parameter into templates in a table. I looked at mwpush.pl and found that it currently doesn't work.
2018-06-06 15:15:32 <jmcgnh> Is there something short of full-blown PyWikiBot that still works? I started to look at the mwpush problem with network diagnostics and I get the impresssion that new https authentication schemes require more support than mwpush ever had in it.
2018-06-06 15:16:28 <CFisch_WMDE> Hmm yeah I don't know how up2date that tool is :-)
2018-06-06 15:17:05 <dave__> Pywikibot is pretty easy to use if you know Python.
2018-06-06 15:18:26 <dave__> This is my first week being available at this time slot. Does this forum cover Lua questions as well?
2018-06-06 15:19:08 <CFisch_WMDE> dave__: Obviously we are not able to answer all things but at least we might be able to point you somewhere :-)
2018-06-06 15:19:10 <jmcgnh> Yep, it was still listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tools/Editing_tools#mwpush but seems dead. I'll take another look at PyWikiBot, though. Just another thing to learn.
2018-06-06 15:19:27 <CFisch_WMDE> Also a lot of people hang around so you might be lucky :-)
2018-06-06 15:19:33 <CFisch_WMDE> TLDR; yes
2018-06-06 15:20:04 <CFisch_WMDE> jmcgnh: replacing the hard coded http:/ in the pl script does not work I guess?
2018-06-06 15:20:29 <Tonina_WMDE> jmcgnh: I'm not sure I understood what you want to achieve, but table2wiki.py script might be useful :)
2018-06-06 15:20:55 <dave__> What would be the best example of a Lua script that validates multiple parameters, processes them the most efficiently, throws errors if they are invalid, etc.?
2018-06-06 15:21:15 <Tonina_WMDE> I mean if you can edit the table in html ( which sounds easier than directly into a template ) then use the script to convert it.
2018-06-06 15:21:55 <dave__> The current project I"m working on is https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Module:Font . Not very impressive yet in terms of validation, but quite functional.
2018-06-06 15:23:51 <CFisch_WMDE> dave__: hmm ok I have nothing in mind, but I can imagine there are heavy used Lua modules that have something like that included
2018-06-06 15:24:08 <CFisch_WMDE> so browsing the module space might help
2018-06-06 15:24:19 <CFisch_WMDE> maybe on en.WP
2018-06-06 15:25:01 <bd808> here's a search that will give you modules that are using Module:Arguments -- https://en.wikiversity.org/w/index.php?search=%22require%28%27Module%3AArguments%27%29%22&title=Special:Search&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns828=1&searchToken=68zxo7u5yg7qv9fbtfik6xrlj
2018-06-06 15:25:36 <jmcgnh> CFisch_WMDE: um, no. It doesn't seem to be a matter of http vs https, but navigating the login process that has undergone the most change. Script seems to have last been actively developed around 2008 and was marked outdated in 2014 without specifics.
2018-06-06 15:25:38 <CFisch_WMDE> bd808: ha, I just wanted to provide something like that ^^
2018-06-06 15:25:52 <bd808> CFisch_WMDE: great minds think alike :)
2018-06-06 15:27:00 <jmcgnh> Tonina_WMDE: Thanks for that idea, but I don't face any difficulties with the edit, per se, but with the process of uploading the modifications properly.
2018-06-06 15:27:52 <Tonina_WMDE> aah ok
2018-06-06 15:30:24 <dave__> bd808: That search helps. I pointed it to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=%22require%28%27Module%3AArguments%27%29%22&title=Special:Search&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns828=1&searchToken=28db8ymjpaz11us88m1xi032e and found some error handling. Still need to look for efficient parameter processing.
2018-06-06 15:34:38 <dave__> Separately, does anyone have a good example of how to modify wikitext from JavaScript? I'm not sure where I want to go in terms of user interface, but would like to be able to automate some editing tasks by gadget.
2018-06-06 15:38:08 <Tonina_WMDE> dave__: do you mean you want to use some js bot for that?
2018-06-06 15:39:16 <Tonina_WMDE> I personally have used mwbot and it has a nice edit function :)
2018-06-06 15:39:54 <dave__> Tonina_WMDE: Not really. For bot work, I'm fine with pywikibot. I'm more interested in how to extend the user interface with gadgets that could interact with wikitext while editing.
2018-06-06 15:41:30 <jmcgnh> dave__: Maybe I can offer something: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jmcgnh/linkclassifier-list-self-redirects.js I've extended the original script to add a whole section to the page.
2018-06-06 15:43:20 <CFisch_WMDE> dave__: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets
2018-06-06 15:43:41 <CFisch_WMDE> many gadgets in Editing do stuff like that :-)
2018-06-06 15:46:01 <dave__> jmcgnh: There's some good stuff there that will definitely extend my knowledge. Thanks!
2018-06-06 15:46:47 <dave__> CFisch_WMDE: Also good ideas. I'll see what I can find.
2018-06-06 16:02:47 <Tonina_WMDE> Ok, that's all for this week's meeting. Thank you for participating and see you next time! :) o/
2018-06-06 16:03:43 <jmcgnh> Thanks.
2018-06-06 16:05:20 <CFisch_WMDE> Bye bye!
2018-06-06 18:10:14 <qq[IrcCity]> to whom belongs this glitchy wmopbot?
2018-06-06 18:21:50 <qq[IrcCity]> https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Danilo.mac#wmopbot
2018-06-06 20:22:37 <Stryn> any idea what's wrong with some tools? https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T196568
