2017-10-18 05:10:34 <edward> every query returns triggers a timeout
2017-10-18 06:20:16 <edward> https://query.wikidata.org/ <-- "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread"
2017-10-18 06:21:36 <edward> PROBLEM - SSH on wdqs1003 is CRITICAL
2017-10-18 06:21:48 <bawolff> edward: works for me
2017-10-18 06:22:00 <bawolff> using one of the example queries
2017-10-18 06:24:14 <edward> oh, that's odd
2017-10-18 06:25:02 <edward> not working for me yet
2017-10-18 06:25:55 <edward> tested with this query: SELECT ?work WHERE { ?work wdt:P840 wd:Q62 }
2017-10-18 06:29:27 <bawolff> Maybe there are multiple wikidata query services, and I just happen to have gotten the non-broken one
2017-10-18 06:30:04 <bawolff> https://query.wikidata.org/#SELECT%20%3Fwork%20WHERE%20%7B%20%3Fwork%20wdt%3AP840%20wd%3AQ62%20%7D works for me as well
2017-10-18 06:30:28 <bawolff> Well looks like hoo is looking into it now
2017-10-18 06:31:11 <hoo> bawolff: Yeah… I guess the host froze
2017-10-18 06:32:24 <edward> is there a parameter I can pass to query.wikidata.org to select which host my query is sent to?
2017-10-18 06:32:59 <hoo> Sadly not, no :/
2017-10-18 06:33:16 <hoo> well, usually that would be a good thing
2017-10-18 06:33:22 <hoo> but here I can see it's annoying
2017-10-18 07:37:22 <pathfinder_> Hello. I have a query regarding Wikimedia backlinks-api. I hope this is the right place Are the backlinks provided live ? Or does it return data from an archived database? I had this question because I was going through the back-links of page [Mascara](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mascara) and I see 'Led Zeppelin' in the list. But there is no link to Mascara on [Led_Zeppelin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin)
2017-10-18 07:44:56 <drewmutt> pathfinder_: What's the precise query you're running?
2017-10-18 07:51:00 <pathfinder_> https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=backlinks&bltitle=Mascara&bllimit=500&blfilterredir=nonredirects
2017-10-18 07:53:01 <pathfinder_> Here's the result response.

2017-10-18 09:48:20 <WillPittenger> I noticed that the Android Wikipedia app seems to struggle with <gallery> tags. The images are shown overlapping. It'd be better to so them as a grid of thumbnails.
2017-10-18 09:48:46 <WillPittenger> I think this is the right place to discuss such issues.
2017-10-18 09:49:50 <WillPittenger> As an example, look at the page for the Zambezi River.
2017-10-18 09:50:21 <andre__> if you talk about some app: #wikimedia-mobile probably
2017-10-18 09:52:00 <WillPittenger> I just asked there too.
2017-10-18 09:52:55 <andre__> it's not a topic for here, this is about the wikis themselves :)

2017-10-18 15:58:12 <CFisch_WMDE> Hi Aguyintobooks
2017-10-18 15:58:28 <Aguyintobooks> I have started an RfC to get the Timeless skin enabled on en-wikipedia
2017-10-18 15:59:16 <Aguyintobooks> This skin: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Skin:Timeless
2017-10-18 16:01:30 <addshore> Aguyintobooks: woo!
2017-10-18 16:01:47 <addshore> As for the Technical Advice IRC meeting, I think our time is up!

2017-10-18 16:02:26 <CFisch_WMDE> Yeah, till nix week! :-)
2017-10-18 18:24:04 <Skalman_> Hi! I've noticed a problem on svwiktionary, svwp and enwiktionary (but not enwp). The editing textarea (#wpTextbox1) seems to have several listeners on keydown/keypress/keyup, that sometimes seems to slow down typing. Is this a known problem?
2017-10-18 18:32:24 <MatmaRex> Skalman_: it's probably not known. the easiest way to find out is to file a bug and see if anyone closes it as duplicate ;)
2017-10-18 18:34:18 <Skalman_> MatmaRex: Will do. I was just thinking that this is perhaps a current deployment, since it hasn't shown up on enwp. Thanks
2017-10-18 18:34:55 <MatmaRex> Skalman_: sv.wp and en.wp would have new changes deployed at the same time
2017-10-18 18:35:34 <MatmaRex> Skalman_: it might be something you enabled/disabled in preferences. off the top of my head, perhaps syntax highlighting or ULS could be the source. or some gadget.
2017-10-18 18:38:15 <Skalman_> MatmaRex: Okay. I see this also when not logged in, so it would have to be some site setting
2017-10-18 18:40:47 <MatmaRex> Skalman_: i actually see a bunch of event listeners on #wpTextbox1 on sv.wp that are not present on en.wp. they all seem to come from ULS (which i probably disabled on en.wp but not on sv.wp). but at a glance they don't seem to do anything slow.
2017-10-18 18:42:49 <Skalman_> MatmaRex: I only notice it sometimes - so it's probably most noticeable on slow computers/when the computer is doing lots of other stuff
2017-10-18 18:57:48 <Niharika> Syntax highlighting does do some event listening there.
2017-10-18 18:59:15 <Skalman_> Niharika: Syntax highlighting? The source editing box doesn't have any highlighting...
2017-10-18 18:59:32 <Niharika> Skalman_: Ah, it's a beta feature.
2017-10-18 18:59:43 <Niharika> If you don't have it enabled, it should be fine.
2017-10-18 18:59:47 <Niharika> But do try it!
2017-10-18 19:43:38 <chicocvenancio> is there some reason commons should be sending me 500 on me trying to get the files from a category in a loop through pywikibot?
2017-10-18 20:08:33 <MatmaRex> chicocvenancio: that shouldn't happen, perhaps you discovered a bug. it would help if you could share the exact requests you're making
2017-10-18 20:08:37 <MatmaRex> or the code, i guess
2017-10-18 20:10:34 <chicocvenancio> sure https://paws-public.wmflabs.org/paws/user/chicocvenancio/notebooks/Category%20to%20pdf.ipynb
2017-10-18 20:15:08 <chicocvenancio> it is weird that it fails randomly with some files, but retrying does not solve it
2017-10-18 20:46:15 <Sagan> is limit=max supported for all API querys with limits?
2017-10-18 20:46:24 <Sagan> or do some still only support specified numbers?
2017-10-18 20:59:39 <TimStarling> RFC meeting starting now in #wikimedia-office: Bump PHP requirement to 7.0 in 1.31
2017-10-18 21:18:27 <chicocvenancio> MatmaRex, I pushed up the retries (a lot, there is a recursive function to retry the errors now) it makes it work. But I find this to be a weird behavior from commons/paws
2017-10-18 21:50:21 <legoktm> Sagan: everything should support limit=max, if not it's probably a bug
2017-10-18 21:51:10 <Sagan> legoktm: ok, thank you :)
