The manual said to report any problems here. I am an IRC newbie, so please bear with me if I break any etiquette. [10:03:20] In my localsetting.php file, I have lines: [10:03:20] $wgScriptPath = "/mediawiki"; [10:03:20] $wgScriptExtension = ".php"; [10:03:20] $wgArticalPath = "/wiki/$1"; [10:03:20] $wgUsePathInfo = true; [10:03:21] In my apache httpd.conf file, I have mod_alias loaded, and the lines [10:03:21] Alias /wiki "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/mediawiki/index.php" [10:03:22] AcceptPathInfo on [10:03:22] I have restarted the server and I have had partial sucess. When I type "localhost/wiki/MainPage", the server responds with a status 301/moved permanently and the browser loads "localhost/mediawiki/index.php/MainPage". [10:03:41] The behaviour I want is that the server should serve up the content without a redirect, so that bookmarks work, and the urls look elegant. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to proceed? AFAIU, this hackathon won't deal with i18n so much, so must of the i18n team won't be there. [15:45:24] Schroeder: pretty cool! ;) [15:45:51] aharoni: ah, alas... thought i'd bring you some book again... ;-) [15:46:18] AFAICT, none of the existing extensions support this--they all assume the target script is Unicode--so I suspect I'm going to have to write my own [15:46:41] which I know I'm capable of doing, but I just wanted to make sure my assessment of existing extensions is correct lest I reinvent the wheel [15:47:22] Schroeder: are you using only images? Or do you use the ConScript Unicode Registry, too? ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConScript_Unicode_Registry ) [15:47:45] jeremyb: Because my site is in production with a database array, and I need to do my homework before pulling the trigger on a large scale database change. Usually when I ask a question in here someone directs me to where I need to go, like liangent because this is something I cannot google and can more efficiently invest my time in asking questions in the support forum for the software. [15:48:09] aharoni: that assumes viewers have a font installed that includes glyphs for those particular code-points [15:48:38] Schroeder: we have a webfonts extension. If there is a font with the needed characters, it can be easily integrated. [15:48:50] so that the readers wouldn't have to install it manually. [15:48:51] and furthermore, such a registry out of necessity (a) is limited in size, and (b) does not include recently-developed scripts [15:48:57] Thanks for your help all, have a good day! [15:49:10] damnit [15:49:21] and finally, someone would actually have to take the time and effort to add these glyphs to a font, once the CSUR bureaucracy is finished [15:50:13] 03(mod) can not reset user password - 10https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/37216 +comment (10Platonides) [15:50:36] Schroeder: Are you familiar with WikiHiero? ( https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiHiero ) [15:50:45] It sounds very similar to what you need. [15:55:27] aharoni: admittedly without reviewing the code, from the documentation it seems to be so specialized for one particular use case that starting from scratch would probably be easier than trying to generalize it to support arbitrary user-created mappings of source to target script [15:55:44] maybe. [15:55:52] i'm not familiar with the code. [15:55:57] but you can take some ideas, at least. [15:56:37] maybe it can be generalized made extensible, so that Egyptian writing would become one of the options. [15:56:48] that could work [15:57:26] though (again, I haven't looked at the code yet) I strongly suspect that the best way to do that would be to start from scratch and then whoever wants to can make a mapping to Egyptian hieroglyphics [15:58:05] though, since hieroglyphics aren't phonetic and are not alphabetic, the concept of "transliteration" isn't really meaningful [15:58:34] 03(NEW) Add ability to restrict number of search terms - 10https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/37223 normal; MediaWiki: Search; (afeldman) [15:59:03] Schroeder: neither are ZH or Kanji. README says "Hop into your browser and surf into the wiki directory. It'll direct you into [20:32:15] the config script...." - but in my browser, it has an error: "(Can't contact the database server: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) (localhost))" [20:32:40] i'm a little confused. why is it trying to talk to a database server if one's not even been set up yet? [20:32:59] lunaphyte_ - the database doesn't exist yet, but the database *server* should. [20:33:17] Do you have MySQL up and running? [20:33:24] sorry - i should have been clearer - why is it trying to talk to a database server if it's not yet been told where the db server is? [20:33:34] lol [20:33:43] is that on the first step? [20:34:02] Yaron: yes, mysql is up and running. [20:34:26] Reedy: yes, in the section of the README for "in place web install" [20:35:02] am i barking up the wrong tree? is this really meant only for a specified prescribed set of circumstances? [20:35:13] no [20:35:36] there should be no error [20:35:49] you haven't an existing install or anything there? [20:35:52] i sort of expected it would ask me "ok, where's you're database server/database?" [20:36:01] no, this is a new installation. [20:36:46] there is an empty LocalSettings.php file [20:36:56] empty? [20:37:01] that could be tricking it [20:37:02] how empty? [20:38:09] that was likely a result of me doing some ownership permissions housekeping. [20:38:38] i'm not sure where it came from, but i see it's not in the source, so obviously something i did at some point. [20:38:54] "LocalSettings.php not found. Please set up the wiki first." [21:14:44] im a total newbie [21:14:46] sorry [21:14:56] That command will bring you into an editor, you can just delete the lines of commits that you don't want anymore. It might have you manually resolve conflicts, but if you're just rebasing on your own work I doubt it will be complicated. [21:15:18] marktraceur_: I'm familiar with rebase -i, but I'm not sure how to back up the first commit [21:15:31] SPQRobin, make a new branch?
