[11:08:27] liangent: ping [13:47:31] Nemo_bis: hi [13:49:37] liangent: nevermind, done; I wanted your help with a DB query but I managed somehow [13:50:06] recycling your query script and another query stolen elsewhere and cleaning the output with evil regexes [14:20:30] Hello Bug Squad! (I know, I'm early :P) [15:02:44] Welcome everybody to this week's bugday on the MediaWiki installer! [15:02:48] In the next 90 minutes we're going to take a look at some installer bug reports in Wikimedia's bug tracker at bugzilla.wikimedia.org, and everybody can help with this. :) [15:02:54] More info can be found on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Triage/20130503 [15:02:57] and progress is tracked on http://etherpad.wmflabs.org/pad/p/BugTriage where we add the tickets that we've looked at. [15:03:38] The list of tickets that anybody can pick from is here: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?action=wrap&chfieldfrom=-12m&chfieldto=Now&component=Installer&product=MediaWiki&resolution=--- [15:03:52] So what I did in preparation for this bugday was: [15:04:02] * making sure that Apache is installed and running on my machine for testing [15:04:07] * making sure that a database (like MySQL) is installed and that its "daemon" is running on my machine for testing [15:04:12] * going to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Download [15:04:17] * following the steps on that wikipage by downloading MediaWiki and installing it in a web-enabled folder of my machine (might require root permissions on a Linux machine) [15:04:21] * opening my browser and going to http://localhost/mediawiki/ [15:04:23] there, I get "MediaWiki - LocalSettings.php not found. Please set up the wiki first." and "set up the wiki" is the link to start the Installer. [15:04:27] So you see it's not the most trivial thing to do, but not very hard either. :) [15:04:33] hi valeriej! how are you? [15:04:40] and hi hexmode! thanks that you found some time! [15:04:53] np... [15:05:24] Hey andre__ ! I'm good. How are you? [15:05:38] hexmode: do you have any particular Installer tickets in my mind that we should definitely test? [15:05:50] valeriej, oh also great here. Visiting the German Wikimedia office for two days :) [15:06:08] not at this time, andre__ [15:06:19] Heh. that's probably good :) [15:06:39] but I'm available to help test anything and want to know what we have [15:06:52] Installer is the poor step child :( [15:06:58] yeah :-/ [15:07:15] well, everybody's free to take any bug to try :) [15:07:25] see the link in the Etherpad at http://etherpad.wmflabs.org/pad/p/BugTriage [15:08:04] hmm, in case that somebody still has a Windows computer with IE8 (I don't here), https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26689 would be a pretty minor one to retest [15:08:08] Oh, no, you're using the labs instance for an event again [15:08:18] marktraceur, is that good or bad? [15:08:33] andre__: Good! I'm getting my computer set up. [15:08:44] andre__: It's good in that we get more testing, but bad in that I'm gonna get pinged a few times when the instance restarts :) [15:08:52] marktraceur, ehehe [15:09:13] well, you know about https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46539 anyway (covering our two Etherpad instances) [15:09:42] valeriej, oh, nice. you saw the steps I pasted above, that's what I did today. But I don't know how that's on Windows, might be more complicated [15:10:02] so, https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47191 looks kind of ugly [15:10:28] for https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42205 I wonder which exact package on Linux includes DOM-XML support... [15:10:36] * hexmode looks around for mysql 5.6 [15:10:48] andre__ it is included by default in debian [15:10:49] hexmode, yeah, that's the only potential important ticket that I had in mind too [15:10:59] andre__: I have Linux on my desktop, so I'll be working on that. [15:11:04] valeriej, yay! [15:11:11] andre__ it is a rh-specific problem [15:11:36] hexmode, oh great, got Fedora here. hexmode, if it's "php-xml", I don't have that installed, so let's see [15:11:41] or, maybe debian-exempt [15:11:41] hi LordOfLight! [15:12:10] hmm, only mysql 5.5 on Fedora 18 :( [15:12:46] * hexmode pulls up his virtual machines to see if he can pick one [15:12:59] andre__ can you repro with 5.5, though? [15:13:02] probably not [15:14:22] andre__ mysql 5.6 for you: http://opensourcedbms.com/dbms/installing-mysql-5-6-on-cent-os-6-3-redhat-el6-fedora/ [15:14:29] oh yay, thanks [15:15:40] what was the ie8 bug? I may have a virt machine for it [15:15:55] hexmode, 26689 but that's really minor [15:16:17] Right now I'm confused that https://localhost/mediawiki/mw-config/index.php is just blank for me. Hmm. [15:18:01] look at your apache error log [15:27:11] andre__: any luck? [15:27:16] * hexmode just resolved 26689 [15:27:29] looking at 47191 [15:28:06] Grr. Not yet. [15:30:10] aha. [15:30:23] :) [15:30:39] PHP Fatal error: Class 'DOMDocument' not found in /var/www/html/mediawiki/includes/cache/LocalisationCache.php on line 587, referer: http://localhost/mediawiki/ [15:30:56] in /var/log/httpd/error_log [15:31:10] and this is a checkout from git master. [15:31:30] so I guess that's exactly what I wanted :) [15:31:47] and https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42205 [15:31:58] but I didn't expect just a blank page in the browser. Urgh. [15:32:33] congrats, the most horrible error handling ever! [15:32:40] a blank page!!!! :) [15:32:43] +1 [15:32:54] I'm gonna update the ticket [15:34:39] this is not a low and minor bug, in my humble opinion [15:37:44] hexmode, for bug 42205, could this be solved at all in the Installer itself, or are other changes needed outside of the Installer for propagation of an error message, or checking of dependencies? [15:37:51] wondering how to proceed on that one [15:38:25] * andre__ adds 26689 to http://etherpad.wmflabs.org/pad/p/BugTriage for hexmode [15:38:41] valeriej: how is it going? :) need any help? [15:39:25] andre__: It's going, ha ha. I'll let you know if I have any problems. I should have set this up before, sorry! [15:39:35] andre__: I think only installer needs fixing, at least to say "HEY! you need to install xml support!" [15:39:58] andre__: but it works other than import/export AFAICR [15:40:02] alright then [15:40:40] valeriej: no no, it's fine - setting this up is part of the bugday, IMO :) [15:44:29] https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mirror.php?id=412391 -- taking a bit to d/l ... brb [15:49:16] * andre__ also got sidetracked in discussions at the water cooler here, back now [15:54:26] * andre__ looking at https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29929 [15:54:43] looks like it's the same issue mentioned in http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2011-April/037107.html [15:54:54] which mentions "patch-log_user_text.sql". No idea where that is or was. Hmm. [15:56:54] hexmode: do you think https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29929 should remain high prio? looks way less important now to me [15:56:59] Failed db upgrade from 1.14: Error in fetchObject(): Unknown column 'log_user_text' in 'field list' [15:59:20] * andre__ tries to reproduce https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28304 [15:59:34] andre__: right, just normal, but there are tons of older mw, so not low [16:03:32] hi PPena! Here for the bugday, or just lurking? [16:03:39] I wonder if https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28304 should be WONTFIX. [16:07:21] * andre__ tries to reproduce https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40966 [16:07:42] by setting the SQLite database name to "0" in the DBConnect page of the installer [16:15:02] hmm, I still get "Unable to write to the directory "/var/www/data". Change its permissions so that the webserver can write to it" even after applying "chmod a+rwx" on it [16:15:09] (trying to put my sql db there) [16:18:05] I wonder if I have php5-sqlite3 installed... let's see [16:19:48] andre__, last time I had a similar problem, I did something like sudo chown www-data /var/data/ [16:20:02] waldir, oh that's a good idea, thanks [16:20:10] :) [16:20:26] (It's obvious that I'm never going to become a sysadmin when I grow up, but at least I've heard the words.) [16:21:15] if it helps, I had to look that up cause I didn't remember the command by heart :P [16:33:59] hmm. I guess I give up on https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40966 - somehow cannot make it work :-/ [16:38:04] so, thanks to everybody who was here to join the bugday! Hopefully see you next time :) [16:50:53] Is the bug day stuff yet to happen, or has it already happened? [16:53:23] bawolff, it's past now, but I'm still lurking here and try some stuff :) [16:53:41] so you're very welcome, and there's http://etherpad.wmflabs.org/pad/p/BugTriage to track progress :) [16:53:57] but Installer issues are not popular it seems. [16:54:12] Ok, was just curious. I saw some installer bugs being modified in the other channel [16:54:55] * bawolff enjoys sleeping in more than he enjoys installer bugs [16:55:01] :D
