[11:18:52] does staff censor everything on wikimedia? just a question for "wmf staff" here , cause it seems like apart from the mailing list, and the wikis, IRC is now also censored.. [11:38:25] warpath: hello [11:38:31] what do you mean by IRC is censored ? [11:39:07] apparently saying that wmf is being sexist selecting only women ED's gets u banned. [11:39:19] iirc the Wikimedia related channels are not even managed by WMF staff but by some volunteers [11:39:39] well I guess the decision is up to the community on a specific channel ? [11:39:52] volunteers is a loose term..its actually run by enwiki sysops [11:40:14] I guess lot of online communities enforce the good old Netiquette https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiquette_in_technology#Netiquette [11:40:42] and would avoid potential flame wars / trolling by banning a participant as to keep the channel "sane" [11:41:24] would it be netiquette if i was banned by a 'female' op for saying that? [11:41:42] I dont think the gender of the person is of any relevance [11:41:42] or abuse of powers? [11:41:59] apparently hashar , it is .. [11:42:08] who knew, i did not get a memo.. [11:43:53] I guess if one got banned, a reread of https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC/wikipedia/Guidelines would be a good start [11:44:01] and maybe appeal the banning to the channel operators on #wikimedia-ops [11:44:47] lol that never works..believe me.. [11:45:17] one guy has been trying ot get unabnned from a channel he didn't do anything at jsut because he was banned on another 'language' wiki for a few months now.. [11:45:52] apaprently, being banned on "enwiki" will get u banned on EVERY WIKI*EDIA channel .. [11:52:08] "getting banned for no reason" is usually code for "I don't feel I should be banned for *this*" ;) [11:53:55] meh, i have been here for nearly 9 years now, i would know when i deserve to get banned :P
