[15:02:17] For this next hour, my colleague Amanda and I will be available to address questions from our volunteer discussion coordinators seeking to host cycle 2 movement strategy conversations with their organized groups. [15:08:13] Ola, Chico! Todo bem? [15:08:24] A good Friday to you, janstee. [15:09:54] Yes, happy it is Friday. I’m not sure what other coordinators have joined, but happy to begin discussing observations or questions! [15:11:39] Don't have much time, have to go out to play a chess tournament. Question: Is the wording for the 5 thems in Cycle 2 final now? [15:14:09] Yes, I understand the wording of themes is final, however we are working on some additional framing for the questions based on the feedback we have been hearing about the high burden and needing to gude folks better on how they can focus their discussions [15:24:42] How have you organized strategy discussion in your countries? [15:25:26] Do we have discussion leaders in the audience who would like to share? [15:26:14] For the Affiliations Committee, we are working to identify the top 1 or 2 themes in order to have a group discussion online. [15:26:57] teromakotero, do you mean now for Cycle 2? [15:27:22] Yes. But it can be also how you did with Cycle1. [15:29:28] For Cycle 1 I invited in the German signpost and set up a portal for discussion on de.wikipedia. Then I appeared on Skype at a strategy conference in Austria and got all ideas sent to me. Then I made a strategy conference in Berlin. Then I identified the 50 Swiss editors with the most edits and wrote an e-mail with a questionnaire to all of them. This all yielded to 4 sources. [15:30:09] For Cycle 2 I restructured the strategy portal on de.wikipedia. Each of the 5 themes has its own discussion page. [15:30:22] And off course a general discussion page. [15:30:46] Thank you, GereonK! Interesting. [15:30:59] I will be holding a small strategy session in Berlin in June and will send out e-mail questionnaires to Swiss editors. [15:31:44] I am thinking about holding strategy conferences in the Wikipedia offices in Hamburg, Munich and Cologne or finding somebody to do it for me. [15:32:35] Tomorrow I drive to Dusseldorf to meet with the director of the library for GLAM cooperation. While I'm there there will be about 10 Wikipedians. I will talk to them about strategy, too. [15:34:14] All together thousands of miles of travelling. I gave up asking WMF for travel money. That did not work. So I'm asking Wikimedia Germany, they pay without any problems, then later get the money from WMF. It's easy that way. [15:35:20] Where is the best place to start the discussion? [15:36:02] All in all it would be ideal if people would answer 25 questions, 5 questions for each of the 5 themes. That's far too much for on-wiki, because it requires too much reading, so I'm thinking about making an online survey where you are presented the questions one after the other. [15:36:32] The best place to start a discussion is where most listeners are, and that normally is a Wikipedia. [15:37:37] Thank you, GereonK! This helped me a lot! :-) [15:38:17] teromakotero, are you planning something for Japan? [15:38:24] I'm working on the discussion in Finland. [15:38:30] Ah ok [15:39:27] User:Josve05a (WMF) is doing the Strategy Coordination for Sweden. I know Wikimedia Svergie has strong ties to Wikimedia Suomi. You could ask him to help. [15:40:06] I will contact him. Thank you! [15:41:02] Tomorrow at 12 there's Kevätkokous 2017 in Helsinki. If you attend maybe you can get feedback there from Wikimedians. :) [15:42:57] You might start a discussion on Kahvihuone [15:43:29] although that looks quite dead :( [15:43:50] I will be there. But it will be on our meeting 5th May when we will talk more about it. [15:44:02] 5th June? [15:44:11] Sorry June. [15:44:30] I have to go now. So nice talking to all of you. Take care! [15:44:48] What you said about Kahvihuone is exactly the reason I was asking. [15:44:52] Thank you Gereon, have a great weekend! To add to what Gereon shared - I did a quick review of Cycle 1 submissions to learn that most often folks held onwiki discussions (39%) followed by in-person discussions (17%) and then various offwiki options including mailing lists, facebook, other social media, and surveys [15:45:32] What's App and Telegram to name a few, yes [15:46:15] Good to know. Thank you, janstee! [15:48:11] The highest participation counts were in discussions held on wiki, followed by survey, and facebook. In-person and other discussions tended to be smaller with the number averaging about 10 folks with a maximum of 30 [15:49:40] slack, email, and what’s app more usually only 5 folks from what has been reported in source summaries for Cycle 1 [15:50:18] To tell the truth, I'm still working on translation to Finnish. I think it's important have the texts on your own language because the concepts are quite abstracts and difficult to understand. [15:51:16] Yes, how are you finding the translation? [15:51:31] I know we worked to revise the language to hopefully ease translation [15:52:36] I'm doing it little by little here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Strategy%2FWikimedia+movement%2F2017%2FCycle+2%2FOrganize%2FToolkit&language=fi&action=page&filter= [15:53:25] I have many projects going on so it's little by little. [15:54:58] Yes, I understand - thank you for volunteering in this way [15:55:13] I hope that it helps to engage the Finnish community [15:56:47] Well, we are nearing the end of our hour, do we have any final questions or observations about cycle 2 discussions? [15:56:56] Strange, but I can't find my translations any more... [15:58:02] Oh no, could it be they are sitting in an open tab needing to be saved still? [16:00:50] Exactly... How do you save them? I have saved translation by translation... But it seem not to work. [16:00:57] Thanks to those who joined - for those who missed it, there will be another office hours slot on Tuesday.
