[14:30:29] o/ [14:41:14] hi leila [17:30:56] mgerlach: following up on a conversation in a different thread about where to keep research code. (I know you have a meeting now, I'll put it here and feel free to read it later.) [17:35:33] mgerlach: as isaac mentioned there, the code that research writes shows up in a variety of places, depending on the specific use-case. This creates its own limitations (for example, it reduces our ability to increase the bus factor in a systematic way). [17:36:09] mgerlach: there is a bit of history that I'm blanking on right now. At this moment, you can find some of the Research related repositories in https://github.com/search?q=org%3Awikimedia+research-&unscoped_q=research- [17:36:30] mgerlach: the part I'm blanking on is why did we decide not to put them in https://github.com/wikimedia/research [17:37:23] mgerlach: of course that's not capturing everything we should have in one place. For example, formal collaborations may result in code outside of the Wikimedia repository (partly for historical reasons and this can/should change in the future). Check for example: https://github.com/AshwinParanjape/navlink-recommendation [17:38:12] mgerlach: please gather your learnings while you're exploring and let's discuss at some point (not in your first month; ) how to improve this.
