[14:29:17] drmrs seems tricky to me [14:29:44] You can call it whatever you want, I'm excited we are going to have a sixth datacenter :D [14:29:59] Dr. Miss? [14:30:21] Dr. Mr. S(ukhe) [14:30:24] I am going with "der-mers" for now unless someone comes up with something else in the meantime [14:30:24] he got his own DC [14:30:29] ! [14:31:08] well, number of our traffic team is smaller than number of our dcs, you can leave some for others too [14:31:16] hahah [14:33:24] bblack: I have some additional stuff that will need to be updated sooner or later for drmrs, should I drop them in the above task or a separate one? Is there a master task? [14:47:40] volans: do you mean stuff in the puppet repo, or? [14:48:05] netbox, pywmflib, spicerack, etc... [14:48:25] I just have made a list, so would be nice to dump it somewhere to not loose it [14:48:26] so much for single sources of truth! :) [14:48:40] ahahah [14:48:45] yeah, dump it there, and we'll make it part of that task to go through those bits as well [14:48:49] it's called cache :-P [14:49:09] the task is serving a double purpose as a learning tool for Marc as well, so guiding him through those vs doing it ourselves is the preference. [14:49:27] ack [14:50:42] 10Traffic, 10SRE: Configure dns and puppet repositories for new drmrs datacenter - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T282787 (10Volans) Other random things that needs to be updated sooner or later. I hope you don't mind if I drop them here, feel free to move them to a dedicated task. Some should wait that we... [14:51:02] {done} (and also just re-updated it to clarify netbox has more stuff) [14:55:48] 10Traffic, 10SRE: Configure dns and puppet repositories for new drmrs datacenter - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T282787 (10BBlack) [14:55:49] thanks! [14:56:23] I linked it all up now too in the relevant task tree (most of the other tasks are private as they're procurement-related) [15:06:44] ack, thx [15:10:07] mmandere: FYI feel free to ping anytime Arzhel (XioNoX) and me for the Netbox data, me for the other items in my comment. [15:42:11] Has the geo dns maps been decided for new dc? [15:43:54] RhinosF1: no, that won't happen until later. I mean, we'll push an initial guesswork map as we get closer to the physical work, but it won't be well-tuned until we actually have our exchange and transit links live and can take real measurements (e.g. from RIPE probes) towards our real links on the real internet. [15:45:01] Realistically, we're still a couple months out from being at that stage of things [15:45:09] bblack: that makes sense. I'm guessing things closer will potentially hit it though. (Hint: UK) [15:46:00] who knows really, at this stage [15:46:40] our existing esams may or may not be closer to the UK on the network. [15:47:19] but the split of the nearby EU stuff between amsterdam and marseille will be tricky, we may have to take load balance between the sites into account when the latency advantages one way or the other are negligible [15:49:26] network latency topology is sometimes surprisingly different from physical geography [15:49:45] thankfully it's not true anymore, but for a long time, the topological center of the Asian internet was Los Angeles [15:49:57] bblack: ah [15:50:16] cdanis: networks are pure confusing [18:10:21] 10Traffic, 10observability, 10User-fgiunchedi: Port traffic/netops grafana alerts to AM - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T282806 (10BBlack) [18:13:30] 10Traffic, 10observability, 10User-fgiunchedi: Port traffic/netops grafana alerts to AM - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T282806 (10BBlack)
