[08:48:42] [telegram] This is a bit off topic, but does anyone have an example of someone outside WMF (or chapters) doing work on Mediawiki (or extensions) motivated by their own use but that was later also used on the Wikimedia servers? [09:00:11] Jan_ainali: GlobalUserPage was originally developed for shoutwiki.com and then fixed up/deployed for Wikimedia [09:00:53] There's plenty of small MediaWiki features that were developed by outside developers that were enabled (either by default or eventually by config switch) on Wikimedia sites [09:01:54] [telegram] Thanks! that's exactly the kind of things I was looking for. Is there an easy way to spot more like this on mediawiki.org? (re @wmtelegram_bot: [irc] Jan_ainali: GlobalUserPage was originally developed for shoutwiki.com and then fixed up/deployed for Wikimedia) [09:03:03] Probably not easy. There's a Template:OnWikimedia that tracks currently deployed stuff. I'd try looking at the extension's author list to see whether they're primarily developing MW for Wikimedia or elsewhere. [09:03:29] [telegram] I guess https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Extensions_by_developer , and use petscan to get the intersection of that and extensions used by Wikimedia (re @Jan_ainali: Thanks! that's exactly the kind of things I was looking for. [09:08:28] [telegram] Extension:WatchSubpages was originally created for StrategyWiki; FR Wiktionary recently requested it be installed, but it still needs to go through Wikimedia review (so check back in a few months :P) [13:12:42] [telegram] *years
