[20:26:56] In Special:User_rights it seems like a Bureaucrat can remove themselves from user groups, including Administrator. But they can not remove themselves from Bureaucrat and certain other groups. There are 2 columns. "Groups you cannot change" and "Groups you can change". How do Bureaucrats remove themselves from being Bureaucrats? Or.. what or who can edit the groups even a Bureaucrat can not edit? [20:32:44] stewards? ;) [20:34:43] No user found. [20:34:53] on wikitech there are no stewards [20:35:33] wikitech is a SUL wiki now, so stewards you be able to remove you from groups there [20:35:48] should be able* [20:35:53] " This configuration, where admin and above rights can be granted but not removed locally, is used on most Wikimedia wikis." [20:36:05] ^ this .. so then where can they be removed? [20:36:59] so basically I could try a wall message on stewards* VM, heh [20:39:18] technically this is done at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UserRights/Mutante@labswiki [20:39:29] I am reading https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests [20:39:37] if you have steward or staff rights, you can change the rights there. if you don't, it redirects to the other wiki [20:39:52] yea, redirects me [20:40:22] thanks MatmaRex and Reedy. I will try to create a normal steward request. [20:40:24] https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Permissions#Removal_of_access [21:14:59] mutante: just to flag just in case, you've edited https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/SRE/Clinic_Duty/Access_requests in January, which iiuc is only editable by Wikitech admins: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=943249 [21:18:56] A_smart_kitten: thanks for flagging that. So worst case I would need Administrator but I would not know why I need Bureaucrat. [21:19:40] I guess I am also ok with not editing that page anymore. hmmm [21:22:02] mutante: i don't know what exactly folks might need to be a bureaucrat on wikitech to do, so i wouldn't want to say anything with certainty there. but definitely for that specific page i believe you should only need to be an admin (and I don't _think_ wikitech at least has such a thing as 'bureaucrat-locked' pages :p) [21:22:16] https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ProtectedPages?namespace=&type=edit&level=sysop&wpfilters%5B%5D=noredirect&size-mode=min&size= in case you're curious what pages you'd lose the ability to edit by not being an admin :p [21:28:18] A_smart_kitten: thanks! that's a good link. I expected it to be mostly just the SSH fingerprint pages. rethinking it. but still think the Bureaucrat level can be removed.
