[08:27:58] [1/2] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Tomiloo [08:27:58] [2/2] Promotional page [08:32:41] what's really unfortunate is those types have learned about and over time increasingly will abuse the creation of their own 'fief' to spam their crap on [08:40:13] Can't we add words like "Crypto" to a blacklist? [08:41:02] This page has previously been made exactly on other user pages as well [08:42:30] [1/2] I also hate all these self promotion pages, like this one: https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Muhammad_Abuzar [08:42:30] [2/2] Hopefuls from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc. Meta is not a LinkedIn service [08:42:35] it's clear there's several elements that that should join the abuse list [08:42:53] that I would consider in a different category but undeniably that's what those pages are about yeah [08:43:06] I am open to the idea anything of that format just gets blipped from existence on meta [08:43:15] or login for that matter [08:43:21] Yeah. [08:43:47] If they so desperately need such service, why don't they use LinkedIn. [08:44:22] Or we could make a separate wiki for that purpose, but I am afraid that that just would be misused also :ThinkerMH: [08:45:50] We keep saying that "Meta is our Central Coordination Wiki" ... but it increasingly seems to become a trash can from Wikipedia, where these pages were deleted (and rightly so) [08:49:02] they do, and every other website on the internet to be honest [08:49:47] no separate wiki to encourage it is needed, and they probably do congregate on wikis of choice (used to be famepedia and the type) which may be discoverable in their centralauth [08:50:12] when we say meta is our central coordination wiki though this is where I'd begin to say something else in the matter, nonwithstanding support for a purge of these promotional pages [08:52:16] [1/2] wikipedia is pretty clearly focused on a certain style and a certain mission, that is why its expectations have always been one thing (and leaning tighter year over year with the growing scrutiny and effort to keep it so), while miraheze is at least adjacent to fandom as much as it is to wikipedia despite early meta elements being wikipedia knockoffs (which is not ideal imo, it is im [08:52:16] [2/2] possible to treat miraheze as a looser WMF). That means appealing and accepting an infinitely broader variety of content and expectations, to a standard yes, but it will always be wilder. And again, that's less about the india pages and more about the overall implication of 'trash can from wikipedia' [08:55:39] in any case I did just leave a message in meta admin channel to rally on the promotional pages, I think we can just call the one you linked straight up spam [08:55:57] no finer proof than appearing to drop a payload with no further history [08:59:34] [1/2] The difference is, Meta was not designed for anything else, than communication, support, guidelines, policies. [08:59:34] [2/2] I know that Wikimedia is really strict. Even too strict for my liking. But at least everyone knows it's purpose. Some see Meta as their playground, and that should be discouraged. We would be standing stronger when we all could agree on a certain standard. [09:01:53] Also, for us patrollers it would be nice to know where the line is drawn. User:Routhnick (or whatever it's name is) places {delete}s on some as out of scope, and I agree with most of them. Problem is then that the deletion Category is not watched over. [09:02:16] Could that be added to the Admin navigation? [09:07:52] deletion category is pretty much whenever an admin gets to it, now that you mention it I probably s hould [09:08:40] it could probably enter their sidebar but to be honest I don't know if it would explicitly improve review time on its own that way [09:09:03] though it might help me using the bookmark/url way that I haven't gotten around to making efficient [09:12:19] feel free to deletion notice all such user pages btw, I just blew away the first one [09:12:35] or even just centralauth links [09:16:33] sure enough the next one I found uses famedata to promote their socials [09:16:42] lets see if famedata still has a purpose [09:17:58] it's all promotional, I'm going to forward for closure discussion [09:22:04] {{PAGESINCATEGORY:Candidates for deletion}} [09:22:04] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/PAGESINCATEGORY:Template:Candidates_for_deletion [09:22:45] This magic word will add the current number of entries in the category [09:24:32] ```Number of pages and categories that are [[:Category:Candidates for deletion|Candidates for deletion]]: {{PAGESINCATEGORY:Candidates for deletion}}``` [09:24:32] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/PAGESINCATEGORY:Template:Candidates_for_deletion https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/:Category:Candidates_for_deletion
