[05:18:32] https://tenor.com/view/scp-scp-096-scp-96-gif-8632304887283725008 [07:15:09] Long time no see! [07:34:55] [1/2] I contacted the Wikimedia Foundation btw 😭😭😭 [07:34:56] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1527579338248294470/IMG_20260717_143305.jpg?ex=6a5b2c9f&is=6a59db1f&hm=5891c14211dfc9154d15317e3a80636a6f057a9bd730825041e4a75cca3a8da1& [07:35:21] [1/2] Just because of my logo 😭😭 [07:35:21] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1527579445408563263/Screenshot_2026_0715_111237.png?ex=6a5b2cb8&is=6a59db38&hm=53dc19551614c12305569cc132a1b959cf7f40e6455c377d11e339cb132c2e99& [07:41:00] It looks like a person in a box. [07:41:11] A rectangular boc. [07:41:55] Yeah [07:42:01] Yeah... [07:42:14] But arc is Pentagonal [07:42:36] Noted. Noted... [07:42:59] It looks nice though. [07:43:01] I think? [07:43:20] I actually don't think at all. [07:43:43] So what the wiki for? [07:43:49] Fictional stuff? [07:43:54] WikiTriston [07:44:00] Are you trying to self-host? [07:44:05] Instead of relying on Miraheze? [07:44:07] No [07:44:12] Hosted Miraheze [07:44:29] Ahhh. [07:44:31] https://wikitriston.miraheze.org [07:44:32] Cool. Cool cool cool. [07:44:40] Very nice. [07:44:52] So you had to email them about the logo or something? [07:47:02] Logo [07:47:04] Because it would be confused with the Wikimedia Foundation logo. [07:47:50] Ahhhh. [07:47:55] Yeah, make sense. [07:47:57] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1527582619036815451/Screenshot_2026_0717_144743.png?ex=6a5b2fad&is=6a59de2d&hm=63fef91c0de36d3dec12c5fb0f7f8815b386ea8978679f74b4ee8c5b4584ceb1& [07:48:04] Oh... Oh no. [07:48:13] The only difference is, [07:48:16] Theirs are circular. [07:48:18] did anybody else hear of this? this is concerning [07:48:35] That is... Very similar. [07:48:39] I can see the issue. [07:49:01] You mean Fandom being Fandom. As per usual? [07:49:06] yes [07:49:43] Blatant plagiarism... I guess we could try to hit them with a DMCA? [07:50:07] yeah [07:50:57] though someone from gta.wiki did try to reasonably reach out to them, just citing their concerns [07:51:06] but then, they got globally blocked on fandom, unsurprisingly [07:51:11] Being reasonable to fandom? [07:51:14] Fucking IMPOSSIBLE. [07:51:31] You gotta fight scums with scum tactics. [07:51:33] being reasonable to the offender, not Fandoom [07:51:52] [1/2] Same logic. [07:51:52] [2/2] Being reasonable to unreasonable people is stupid. But I can see it from their perspective. [07:52:04] https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:OishiiOnIno#Plagiarism_concerns [07:52:33] that's how it started for me πŸ˜… [07:53:05] But yeah... Fandom keeps giving us more reasons to hate them. [07:53:08] It's surreal. [07:53:19] yeah [07:53:21] anyways... [07:53:26] How are you? [07:53:29] Doing great? [07:53:29] good [07:53:37] Neat. Glad to hear. [07:53:42] to explain as to what happened with me a couple months earlier [07:53:50] Go for it. [07:54:30] so, I was editing a wiki that is still stuck and brutally occupied by Fandoom, as how I'd like to say it [07:54:35] suddenly, I got globally blocked [07:54:44] like it kinda came out of nowhere [07:55:46] I reasonably reached out to fandom staff as why I was globally blocked, then they answered with my involvement in wiki forking [07:56:32] I was being vigilant with their policies and pinpointing them out as to how I wasn't violating the forking policy (e.g. being allowed to conduct forking polls or voting yes to some forking wikis) [07:57:02] Cross-wiki polls. Yeah I get it. Used to do those for a couple games wiki I manage. [07:57:20] and then they said "yeah, you're right, but because of your forking polls/threads, we blocked you" [07:57:49] Way better than having to do the mental gymnastics of calculating individual polls like you're counting votes for an election. [07:58:01] That's... Their reasoning? [07:58:04] That's it? [07:58:05] yeah [07:58:24] It's just polls... [07:58:25] and it was like a few polls conducted across a span of like 9 months on a few relatively small game wikis [07:58:52] and in some cases, some admins said no, or there weren't enough votes even, soooo [07:59:01] Yeah... [07:59:02] it's not like they're gonna lose much, are they? [07:59:19] Plus it's just a fork poll. It's actually easier to count the votes. [07:59:26] Instead of having to check individual polls, [07:59:32] Then add it to the pile of votes. [07:59:36] Then you sort out the votes. [07:59:38] Which is a hassle. [08:00:02] Tldr: no forking polls!!! - Fandom [08:00:11] Truly a Fandom moment. Such anti&consumerism behaviour. [08:00:18] Then again that's Fandom whole MO. [08:00:28] Being as anti-consumerism as possible. [08:01:30] I should start hosting wikis again... [08:27:25] they just really don't want you chipping their sweet sweet ad revenue [08:27:41] I think there has been enough demonstration how far they've gone to not give them much time of day going forward at all [08:30:11] They'd want a gamma ray burst to happen if it means they get .1 cents out of it [08:34:20] in all this its good to remember fandom isn't even special in corporate behavior [08:34:32] just the average big business philosophy, applied to wiki space [08:35:35] And in the wiki space, we just so happen to value autonomy, free information, accessibility, and good hosts, not corporate interests [08:35:41] this denotes a problem in corporate behaviour more than anything [08:35:54] Some businesses at least try to hide it. [08:48:47] that's true, this is even more brazen than many examples [08:49:07] this indeed tends to clash harder with corporate trends than most places [08:50:01] Yeah [08:50:38] Theoretically speaking, Miraheze Discord is essentially a good part of the Miraheze community [08:51:02] it is a distinct, useful sample of the global [08:51:10] Granted, some people use IRC or something, but there isn't much inconvenience as to switching to another chatting platform [08:52:17] Reddit exists, serving as centralized forums for specific topics, there may always be some independent forums in some cases, but once again, Reddit doesn't have much inconvenience [08:53:37] In wiki communities, you have writers, coders, stylists, screenshotters, researchers, people experimenting with HTML/CSS, JS, and most importantly, passionate fans of a topic. [08:55:01] Since wiki communities generally see these kinds of people more often than, plus given the fact that wikis are kinda like their own websites, with Fandom's constraints, some of them will inevitably desire more autonomy [08:55:24] We call them: old people. [08:55:39] πŸ˜‰ [08:56:29] Fandom may have been convenient enough to use a decade ago, but not as much anymore. Competing services like Miraheze and wiki.gg are doing the job better and are currently the main hosts that grant enough autonomy and convenience for their users. [09:02:24] both reddit and discord are in categories where I would like them to fall to obscurity in the way of fandoom [09:02:49] and I've long term been meaning to figure out how to champion alternative space for miraheze that is not corporate backed like this one [09:03:09] irc is not really the best option for that at all but on the other hand, bridging is desirable [11:50:49] [1/2] I went to the speed racer wiki and for some reason the character infoboxes have text that says SHOUTWIKI MIRAHEZE TELEPEDIA but aren’t links [11:50:50] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1527643738061410374/IMG_5173.png?ex=6a5b6899&is=6a5a1719&hm=dc89699c346851eaf66f1160840f817edfd41d74c3d1b0c415f06ec74457e071& [13:06:19] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/615786602454581249/1527662735285026897/image0.gif?ex=6a5b7a4a&is=6a5a28ca&hm=f98fa2edcbfff7a2f0b924ce12cea17e42a2e9c47c8f9c2776a4669eaeb7f01c& [19:18:46] yo @pixldev [19:18:58] do you have the png files for these emojis: [19:19:25] :StrongestSupportMH: :StrongestOpposeMH: :SupportMH: :WeakOpposeMH: :WeakSupportMH: :NeutralMH: :OpposeMH: [19:20:25] check commons [19:20:47] Aren't they accessible by going back to the images through the templates? [19:20:48] Ye [19:21:28] for example, find the svgs from there, convert to png [19:22:55] convert to png replace svg with png [19:23:12] wikimedia commons has magic [19:23:51] if there's [[File:Symbol support vote.svg]] there's usually also [[File:Symbol support vote.png]] [19:23:51] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/File:Symbol_support_vote.svg https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/File:Symbol_support_vote.png [19:23:52] [1/2] [19:23:52] [2/2] [23:00:57] <.terrorblades> Apologies mods, I did not remeber that this was a blocked website [23:07:45] External links are blocked for users who haven't verified yet [23:09:07] You can verify in #verify
