[00:52:57] I have seen several users who explain that they do not get shown any questions from the Captcha. [00:53:11] Could that be looked at? [00:56:45] [1/2] Probably related to https://github.com/miraheze/mw-config/commit/877637c5c8165b6fda663e7f679a40f4f6ce4e8c [00:56:45] [2/2] @blankeclair [00:57:39] this? https://issue-tracker.miraheze.org/T13532 [00:58:25] Yeah [00:58:33] yeah, uhh [00:58:43] turns out that we were using simplecaptcha for some reason? [00:58:48] which unbroke that [00:58:59] but is very easy to bypass, so i explicitly put back in hcaptcha [00:59:23] But users do not get any questions now, so they can't continue [00:59:36] > Note that the display of a trivial maths problem as plaintext yields a captcha which can be trivially solved by automated means; as of 2012, sites using SimpleCaptcha are receiving significant amounts of spam and many automated registrations of spurious new accounts. Wikis currently using this as the default should therefore migrate to one of the other CAPTCHAs. [00:59:58] yeah... [01:00:08] https://discord.com/channels/407504499280707585/1444482425806917742 [01:00:14] if you want to switch off hcaptcha, _probably_ bring it up to like reception or so [01:00:42] i'd rather not be the person who makes the call to go back to a captcha easily scriptable in an hour [01:02:22] Well... What should these users do then? [01:02:28] Ideas? [01:02:42] yeah, i'm stumped :p [01:03:03] i suppose manually give them confirmed, or ask them to use the wikitext editor? both are unideal options though [01:03:38] the most elegant solution is to have discussiontools work with hcaptcha, but that's an architectural decision that i kinda don't wanna think about [01:03:46] and the wmf are stalling their ases on it [01:06:03] Oh, the wiki source editor is not affected? [01:06:11] nope [01:06:19] Ah... [01:06:23] Good [01:06:24] i _don't think_ that VE is also affected, but i'm too lazy to check ^^; [01:06:32] LOL [01:06:34] (also, my laptop is having lag spikes from running an android emulator) [05:34:35] [1/3] yeah the nonexistent captcha is a Discussion Tools specific issue. one of our pages has a lot of traffic from new editors linking off-site, so we stuck a mediawiki notice there attached to Discussion Tools to warn users about the issue. we give them the option of: 1.) switching to interwiki linking (since captcha only appears for external links), 2.) excising the `https://` from the [05:34:35] [2/3] ir link, or 3.) asking an admin directly for confirmed status. [05:34:36] [3/3] it's kind of a bandaid fix, but people usually read it when they encounter the captcha so they aren't super confused about what to do. [12:00:24] You can disable [Discussion Tools], and use [Convenient Discussions] instead [12:00:38] But both have issues [14:23:09] [1/3] I make $40k-$70k within a week, using the No. 1 investment trading pattern worldwide. [23:02:30] 3 is impossible to expect from casual meta visitors, 1 might be resolvable if it's more stiffly noted to fill the form correctly and not use internal links, and 2's answer bundles with 1 [23:03:10] so I guess the outcome then is to better clarify the form and strongly discourage external links for non regular visitors [23:55:47] I hate to suggest we go further into CF's stack, but I wonder if Turnstile is a valid and free alternative for our nonprofit plan... [23:56:09] But that may very well be its own can of awful.
