[16:39:33] Hi, how would you represent the concept "cat's mouth" in a property value? [18:51:06] Hi! I have students whom I am teaching about Wikidata and I want them to enter some researched data. One student is getting "Editing from 2A02:3100:0:0:0:0:0:0/34 has been blocked (disabled) by Lymantria for the following reason(s): Wikidata's technical logs indicate that this IP address, range of IP addresses, or account has been used abusively. [18:51:07] It has been blocked to prevent further abuse." [18:51:22] Are IP6 addresses generally blocked? [18:52:00] The statement "You may request {{unblock)} through the normal channels, however a [18:52:01] CheckUser will review the block." makes no sense to a Newbie. [18:54:29] He's not even been able to set up a user page to date. Any good ideas? We've tried various VPNs (university, generally available) with no luck. [18:55:54] IPv6 is not generally blocked [18:56:40] Okay, that was just a thought I had. I can't apply for unblock for him, can I? [18:57:55] It looks like that IP range belongs to.. Telefonica germany... but possibly a hosting provider mediaWays [18:59:25] Is only one student having an issue? [18:59:53] Only one has complained, but the exercise is due this evening so I am expecting more presently :) [19:00:29] Some of them may have luck trying via their mobile phones, but that can be as problematic [19:00:34] I thought newbies with IP addresses were now being given temporary accounts? [19:00:53] That we haven't tried, we'll try it in class tomorrow. [19:00:55] They would be... but IP blocks still apply [19:01:27] Ah. [19:03:17] There's ways to create accounts for them.. [19:03:36] Can I do that? Or does a CheckUser have to be involved? [19:04:29] While logged in, you can visit Special:CreateAccount to "Create another account" [19:04:34] They were supposed to do this IN CLASS last week, but everyone left with "better things to do"..... [19:04:53] just in time studenting? never ;) [19:05:15] Great, I'll make a note of that! [19:05:26] But creating accounts doesn't necessarily save them from IP blocks either [19:06:18] https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:IP_block_exemption would in theory be the process [19:06:43] Do you know if that quoted IP is from their "home" or is it the network of whatever place you're teaching them? [19:07:27] No, I don't. I assume home. [19:08:06] Should at least have a few options [19:08:30] That gives me something to work with tomorrow, thanks!!
