I don't think school itself would get in the way unless I had an exam the day after [00:00:23] ok, so what's the blocker? [00:00:34] I don't know for certain if there is one yet, it's all very uncertain [00:00:36] got it [00:00:46] well, I'm in the business of breaking blockers [00:01:14] which includes writing letters to teachers to ask for changing exam dates, giving travel stipends in some cases, reassuring parents, etc etc [00:01:16] chrismcmahon: Ha ha, cool. [00:15:39] (the master branch merge merger ideally does this himself in one go) [00:16:20] csteipp: e.g. when I merge that change in master I can click the change id and see if it was backported, and if not, will do it. My understanding is that Monday would perhaps be a good day for some last-minute smoke testing by volunteers of the VE [00:21:51] do you agree? [00:22:07] I mean Monday next week. [00:22:22] Change merged: Krinkle; [mediawiki/core] (master) - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/36493 [00:23:00] sumanah: Not really. :-) The entire point of the deployment on Tuesday is to give volunteers the ability to test it. There's going to be nothing really testable more than what's been on mediawiki.org since June (and updated) which has had some awesome input from community testers. [00:23:28] csteipp: Now I'd normally do (and suggest you do): $ git cherry-pick fb7c95f567735d6297701e1783457879adc6a749 (= git hash of latest patch version of change I merged) [00:23:41] James_F: Ok. I wanted to check on whether you wanted perhaps some last-minute "are there any really embarrassing showstoppers?" testing. [00:23:48] Krinkle: Cool, I'm doing that now [00:23:56] first: $ git fetch gerrit; git checkout REL1_20; git reset --hard gerrit/REL1_20 [00:24:02] then: git cherry-pick fb7c95f567735d6297701e1783457879adc6a749 [00:24:23] sumanah: Well, that's always helpful. :-) But if that's someone volunteers would like to do, it might make sense for them to look at mediawiki.org right now. [04:54:19] hello?
[04:54:38] Hi RtD.
[04:54:46] How are you?
[04:55:07] pretty good, however, i am having a frustrating time on the mediawiki.org wiki.
[04:55:12] ChiElement: You want to adjust the margins for one particular image or the margin for all images?
[04:55:16] rememberthedot: What's up?
[04:55:25] ChiElement: And is your wiki public?
[04:55:25] 03(mod) Post-page move redirects contain two newlines below redirect code - 10https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/42616 +comment (10Ori Livneh)
[04:56:09] i wrote a gadget that i hoped would be useful on multiple wikis and proposed that it be kept centrally to mediawiki.org...there has thus far been practically no comment or suggestion for improvement: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Requests#Other_requests_and_requests_for_comments
[04:56:29] see also https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Requests/User_rights/Remember_the_dot
[04:56:31] Yeah, I see it...
[04:56:40] Didn't you have SVN access?
[04:56:43] yes
[04:56:54] You should've mentioned that. Adminship is usually automatic for devs.
[04:56:55] my key may even still work, i don't know if it was migrated
[04:56:59] i did mention that
[04:57:08] Oh.
[04:57:20] Then you should just asked a friendly bureaucrat on his/her talk page instead of using that silly process. ;-)
[04:57:26] @Susan - my wiki is public (www.whoinspired.com); it is built with MW and SMW
[04:57:59] rememberthedot: Unfortunately I can't just do it myself. But I'll leave a comment.
[04:58:08] @Susan - I want to adjust all images; it crops poorly (and won't add a border)
[04:59:18] rememberthedot: get it to pass jshint
[04:59:33] thank you. if it's better to poke bureaucrats directly, that should be noted also. there are a few i could poke. but now that i've started the process the "silly way" it would probably look like i was circumventing the process to poke a bureaucrat friend.
[05:00:10] I left a comment.
[05:00:18] If Reedy were awake, I'd just have him do it.
[05:00:21] But I think he's asleep.
[05:00:46] i'm too inexperienced to make the call unilaterally, but passing jshint will make it easier to get this reviewed
[05:01:17] * Susan eyes ashley.
[05:02:02] ori-l: jshint is not being very helpful...it's suggesting a couple of stylistic changes and it doesn't understand the variable $ or that syntaxHighlighterConfig is a global variable which may or may not be defined before the script runs
[05:02:30] Susan: thank you. i'm impressed that you guys have a 24-hour helpdesk.
[05:02:44] Heh.
[05:02:51] IRC has been around for several decades now. ;-)
[05:03:12] I remember you from en.wiki.
[05:03:25] MediaWiki needs as many devs as it can get its hands on.
[05:03:34] And that wiki needs as much love as possible.
[05:03:40] Krenair and Jasper shouldn't be fussing.

[05:04:47] s/can/should/
[05:07:48] Susan: well, thank you for the encouragement, despite my track record of breaking things a few times :-)
[05:08:57] rememberthedot: You played with Scribunto yet?
[05:09:42] 	 i've seen it, it looks nice. i am hoping that this will mean easy localization of complex templates like {{cite web}}
[05:11:17] Heh.
[05:11:27] There's a big question about where/how to host gloabl templates.
[05:11:31] global
[05:11:38] Tim and Victor have been playing with the idea of using a Git repo.
[05:11:59] I'm more strongly in favor of using Meta-Wiki or some other wiki solution.
[05:12:04] i take it no global transclusion feature has been agreed upon?
[05:12:22] It's allegedly written and sitting in a branch.
[05:12:26] Interwiki transclusion branch.
[05:12:33] rememberthedot: Emufarmers just gave you +sysop, so enjoy (he beat me to it :P)
[05:12:35] Probably completely useless at this point.
[05:12:41] Hi Skizzerz!
[05:12:44] yo
[05:12:48] I didn't realize you were around, I would've harassed you instead.
[05:13:14] I'm (usually) around :P
[05:13:27] not the chattiest of people though
[05:13:35] ori-l: i'm working through jshint's suggestions. what do you mean by "you can alias $ to jQuery using an immediate function invocation"?
[05:14:07] 	 I'm guessing via (function($){stuff using $})(jQuery);
[05:16:21] yeah that generates a host of new errors. i'm not going to worry about jshint complaining about $
[05:18:01] Skizzerz and Emufarmers: i just saw the +sysop. thank you!
[05:20:19] also thanks Susan and ori-l...i've got to go in a bit but i appreciate the comments
[05:25:17] No problem.

[14:22:58] i know i work everyday with this function^^ i looked in the sourcecode and i know where the "f" comes from but not why its there in the code. it just stands in a single line at top of the body.

[16:09:41] Greetings all, I've got a weird slowdown problem I'm having a hard time tracking down.. I'm running 1.19 and it seems like any page that's not cached (for instance, Recent Changes) takes an excruciatingly long time to generate (we're talking north of 20 seconds on each pageload). Problem is, there is no load on the server while this wait happens, not on nginx or on mysql
[16:10:25] I don't even have that many changes or users either.. about 30 changes on the page and less than 10 users
[16:10:58] I'm wondering where I should start looking here
[16:13:11] karunamon: Do you have access to php.ini
[16:13:40] Ulfr: Yes, I have root on the server actually

[16:13:59] ^^
[16:14:14] karunamon: Make sure you have a memory limit set in php.ini, 128M is pretty safe. Also make sure you have memcached disabled if it's small
[16:14:59] Already set to 128M, memcached is off

[20:53:57] Good day. I periodically wind up with a database error because of the objectcache table filling up.
