[09:38:59] banica: if you have a bunch of txt files with wiki santax, you can upload them to your server and run a script there to import them [09:39:15] that's quick and easy, if you have shell access and know how to run maintenance scripts [09:39:50] i have many docs files with a lot of text there :) [09:40:43] banica: and you can use a word macro or libreoffice export to convert them to txt files. [09:40:58] the you upload these to your server and use the importTextFile script to import them [09:41:12] ok. so doc -> txt -> mediawiki [09:41:19] yes [09:41:24] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:ImportTextFile.php [09:41:24] there is any way to mass upload txt files to MW? [09:41:33] hm, that help page is a bit... sparse. [09:42:09] banica: yes, you can build an XML file containing all the text from the txt files. there are probably scripts for that somewhere [09:42:19] but it'S probably easier to just use a little bit of shell scripting [09:42:56] can you tell me how i can do this? [09:44:00] something like: for f in whatever/*.txt; do php maintenance/importTextFile.php --title "${f%%.txt}" --user Something --comment "Importing Stuff" "$f"; done [09:44:17] that should import all the text files in one go [09:44:31] (and this is why unix shells are great) [09:44:59] banica: i havn't tried that command, there's probably an error or two in it. but based on this, you should be able to figure it out [09:45:06] ...if you have shell access to your web server [09:45:11] without that, things get tricky [09:45:13] !shell [09:45:13] Shell access (that is, SSH access, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSH) is highly recommended if you want to run MediaWiki. You can install without it, and basic operation will work, but even creating backups or upgrading will be painful without it. Some more involved maintenance tasks may even be impossible. [09:52:02] banica: yes, you can do that if you have mediawiki installed locally: import into your local wiki, then generate an xml dump, and impßrot that into your live wiki using Special:Import [09:52:12] note however that importing over the web may fail for very large dumps [09:52:34] you may have to split it up into chunks say 10 pages (or maybe 100 - try it). [20:13:52] For now, because of other things I have no control over, I am going to rsync the job runner to the web server, then run the jobs [20:14:44] If you are using async chunked uploading (not enabled by default) then definite yes [20:15:00] For the default jobs, that seems unlikely (assuming you do not have file cache on) [20:16:09] Does it make sense that refreshLinks2 would be trying to open files to write to them? I checked mediawiki namespace pages but I couldn't find anything related [23:03:05] Amir1: How are the TOCs ugly? [23:03:12] !contact [23:03:12] There is no such key, you probably want to try: !MediaWiki:confirmemail_body_set, !MediaWiki:exif-contact, !security, !vulnerability, [23:03:23] Hm, sec. [23:53:32] it's not just client side, also server-side. [23:54:36] after 30 minutes we don't serve a 304 for it, the browser would have to fake the timestamp (they don't evaluate maxage on their end, they do but not exclusively) [23:55:27] they still make an http request and ask the server, and if we consider it too old, we'll give a 200 body instead of empty 304. [23:55:29] (in theory) [23:55:58] having said that, this is not the first time it has gone wrong, and unfortunately that was never properly looked into at the time (lack of data) [23:58:48] why do *i* always have to run into these. :P
