[06:13:05] hello, folks [06:13:22] i'm trying to install the math extension in a mediawiki 1.21 installation [06:13:28] it is almost working, but not quite [06:14:01] Okay. [06:14:08] i have installed texlive and all its dependencies, i've installed the math extension, added the appropriate lines to LocalSettings.php, run the php updater script to add the new math tables [06:14:20] i then edited a wiki page [06:14:52] i added this line: \alpha [06:15:09] when i preview the page, it displays "\alpha" [06:15:47] however, when i go to $IP/images/math/ i find a .png file that was generated that is the alpha character [06:16:08] this tells me that everything is working up until it's time to display the .png in the wiki page [06:16:35] i've found nothing online that even remotely alludes to such a problem, so i thought i'd ask here if anyone has any ideas [06:16:50] What's in the page source? [06:16:58] That is, what HTML is being generated? [06:17:01] !debug [06:17:01] For information on debugging (including viewing errors), see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:How_to_debug . A list of related configuration variables is at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Configuration_settings#Debug.2Flogging [06:17:15] You can try setting up a log file to see if anything pops up. [06:17:26] Plus your Web server presumably has logs, as does texlive, probably. [06:21:12] it may be a path issue [06:21:34] i tried a different browser, and oddly, it displays a symbol for an unknown graphic [06:21:45] firefox was displaying \alpha [06:22:01] safaria a blue box with a white question mark, which means it is trying to load a graphic that it can't find [06:25:16] brilliant [06:25:22] i fixed the path problem [06:25:24] sorry to bother you all [06:25:37] although if i had not asked i probably would not have found the problem for a while yet :P [06:26:02] roycroft, how did you fix it? [06:26:28] i fixed $wgUploadPath in LocalSettings.php [06:26:59] Nice. [06:28:07] yes [06:28:18] major stumbling block overcome [09:17:55] Is it possible to let users only register from one ip block? [09:59:31] Can someone tell me what kind of projects will mediawiki be having for GSoC '15 ? [10:00:22] darkprince: I don't think the specific projects will be clear much more than a month or so in advance [10:00:42] darkprince: however, if there's something you'd like to work on, you can make a proposal [10:00:54] okay. and if i want to start contributing to mediawiki how can i do so? [10:01:01] is there some ongoing project nowadays? [10:01:22] darkprince: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_become_a_MediaWiki_hacker [10:01:34] okay thanks :) [10:01:40] i'll give it a read right now [10:02:07] darkprince: I'm not sure about the specific things people are working on. You can take a look at last years' GSoC/OPW projects to get an idea. [10:02:18] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code_2014 [10:02:31] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/FOSS_Outreach_Program_for_Women/Round_8 [10:03:01] thanks :) i'll let you know if something comes up [10:52:41] Hey all. For some reason I can't get any debugging information, not even the debug bar, to appear and it's freaking me the hell out. [10:52:47] On my Wiki. [10:59:37] Hello? [10:59:46] And now none of my extension work dafuq? [10:59:53] theatrex: check if you are editing the correct LocalSettings.php (in case you have several lying around), and you haven't mispelled some variable [11:01:09] Well I ran the update.php script in order to install the PopUp extension and since then everything's gone to crap. [11:06:49] Well so far I've confirmed that the Debugging code, Multimedia Viewer, UploadWizard, and PopUps extensions are not operational. :( [11:11:06] theatrex: that could be probably a JavaScript error caused by that extension, that breaks all the JavaScript of the site [11:11:19] thus affecting all extensions that use JavaScript [11:11:30] !e PopUp [11:11:30] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PopUp [11:11:51] Hmm, let me comment out the Multimedia Viewer. That thing has been flaky ever since I added it. [11:13:35] What the hell? [11:13:38] Now everything is working? o.O [11:14:01] hah, you found the culprit [11:14:26] No no I didn't comment that out yet. [11:14:45] AH HA! [11:14:53] It was the GettingStarted extension! [11:18:38] I wonder why it's breaking the Javascript? o.O [11:22:24] !e GettingStarted [11:22:24] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:GettingStarted [11:24:29] theatrex: did you installed the required dependencies? It needs Extension:EventLogging and Extension:GuidedTour, and also Redis [11:24:46] That's probably why ;) [11:24:53] -facepalm- [11:42:48] is there any ongoing project nowadays to which i can contribute? i know php, html, css n javascript. basically i can develop web pages. [11:43:00] i am a beginner in open source contribution [11:43:41] is there someone here working on a project? [11:45:02] !start | darkprince [11:45:02] darkprince: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_become_a_MediaWiki_hacker [11:46:01] im already on it, i just wanted to know whether is there any project any body needs a help in? [11:46:02] :) [11:50:03] darkprince, https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Annoying_little_bugs offers some lists of ideas [11:50:33] thanks :) [12:02:50] hah that easy mediawiki query is crazily ugly :D [12:59:07] hi newbie can I have some help? [13:05:15] blanc75019: sure, just ask your question :-) [13:06:45] Well I would like to integrate dev team good channel? [13:09:26] find wikimedia-dev forget it :) what is this channel for? thanks [13:10:24] Hello. I recieve an error while trying to save a page [13:10:25] A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. [13:10:25] Query: [13:10:26] UPDATE `page` SET page_latest = '94489',page_touched = '20150105125804',page_is_new = '0',page_is_redirect = '0',page_len = '96',page_content_model = 'wikitext' WHERE page_id = '6001' AND page_latest = '94480' [13:10:26] Function: WikiPage::updateRevisionOn [13:10:26] Error: 1205 Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction (localhost) [13:10:31] Any idea what would cause it? [13:47:11] Self-answer to my question: https://github.com/WikiTeam/wikiteam/issues/213 [15:11:44] m4tx: are you sure? You already blogged about GCI last year :D https://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2014/5880895395332096 [15:15:38] Usercreate.php uses $this->html('header') from QuickTemplate to insert a header. Does this mean it just introduces a placeholder called header which can be later used to insert content? [15:16:09] hm Nemo_bis [15:16:22] okay, you may be right that 2 posts are "more than enough" xD [15:20:05] m4tx: if you have something new to say that's great ;) [17:04:01] Hi [17:04:16] Anyone here familiar with the Proofread page extension? [17:04:36] and with how Watchlisting works? [17:06:14] !ask | Qcoder00 [17:06:14] Qcoder00: Please feel free to ask your question: if anybody who knows the answer is around, they will surely reply. Don't ask for help or for attention before actually asking your question, that's just a waste of time – both yours and everybody else's. :) [17:06:55] marktraceur: At Wikisource, I'd like to able to Watchlist an Index: page , but also see a list of 'Related pages' that have changed... [17:07:12] Hrmmm. [17:07:17] This would make more sense then having to watch 200 or so indvidual Page: namespace pages [17:07:21] True [17:07:39] I don't know how watchlisting works... [17:07:41] Qcoder00: I guess it's a feature request for Extension:BookManager or whatever it is that does Index: [17:07:55] I dunno if BMv2 got finished [17:07:59] Extension: Proofreadpage I think [17:08:03] That works too [17:08:12] is how Index: and Page: are implemented... [17:08:32] Not sure if the extension can be tweaked to do a special form of watchlisting... [17:08:42] Also there's still the Live preview blocker [17:09:20] Qcoder00: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=PHID-PROJ-4h6ntmq5rzo5kf352y3f [17:09:27] Qcoder00: I imagine it would be *possible* [17:09:36] It might just be a shortcut for adding all the Page: articles though [17:09:51] Qcoder00: If that's what they suggest you might as well just write a bot to do it for you [17:09:54] Or tool or whatever [17:11:22] Hmm... I'll bear it in mind [17:11:35] Need to think this into a more implementable idea... [17:11:37] :) [17:11:38] * Qcoder00 out [17:11:42] Cheers! [20:06:47] Hallo. [20:06:55] Are there dumps of all the images in Commons? [20:07:06] I don't see anything relevant at http://dumps.wikimedia.org/commonswiki/20141204/ . [20:07:44] maybe try asking #wikimedia-tech [20:08:13] this is the channel for mediawiki support [20:18:07] hello have some questions about mediawiki [20:18:12] !ask [20:18:12] Please feel free to ask your question: if anybody who knows the answer is around, they will surely reply. Don't ask for help or for attention before actually asking your question, that's just a waste of time – both yours and everybody else's. :) [20:18:56] trying to upload different file types: pdf, doc, ppt onto a page [20:19:10] once i upload it i guess it changes to jpg [20:19:26] is there anyway to upload it to where i can edit it on wikipage? [20:19:42] or would i have to change it on original file first then reupload [20:20:35] Jh_: There's...sort of no way to do that. [20:20:42] There's sort of a kind of way to somewhat do that. [20:20:47] !e EtherpadLite | Jh_ [20:20:47] Jh_: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EtherpadLite_ [20:20:51] Damn it [20:20:53] !e EtherpadLite [20:20:53] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EtherpadLite [20:21:08] Jh_: That extension embeds a collaboratively editable document into a page. [20:21:13] But it's not *really* a document. [20:21:37] Jh_: You could "wikify" the documents, and edit them in wikitext. But I'm not sure if there's a "good" way to export to a slideshow format. [20:21:44] I guess you could export to PDF and convert from theere. [20:22:45] Hmm I see. Thanks for your help! [22:38:24] unicodesnowman: new task :) https://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2014/5859368213938176 [22:47:03] gi11es: i made the relevant changes to T75999 and resubmitted the patch.Kindly review it.
