[01:08:59] Are page IDs unique across an entire wiki or only per namespace? [01:11:13] entire wiki [01:11:20] Thanks [01:11:25] (other wise things like Special:AbuseFilter would trip for multiple pages) [07:16:44] How to do a simple line break in mediawiki? [08:36:29] <_ikke_> Hello. I have an issue with a media wiki hosted on a windows server where suddenly all enters are gone when looking at the wiki page source. If I look into the text table, I see that the enters are still there. Anyone got a clue what this might be? [08:37:07] <_ikke_> MediaWiki 1.19 [08:38:22] <_ikke_> One difference I see with another wiki that works is that the table charset is utf8 instead of binary [09:34:05] Hi all, I am using Mediawiki for my own Wiki, and lately I started using OSX 10.11, which handles two fullscreen windows side-by-side. I see that many responsive sites can adapt to the narrower window, but mediawiki can't. Wouldn't it be nice to automatically hide the lateral sidebar if the window gets really narrow? [09:34:45] I thought about posting an improvement request on the bug reporting system, but I prefer to ask here first [09:43:48] it is somewhat incorrect to say that "MediaWiki can't", since responsiveness or the lack of thereof is a skin feature and there *are* MW skins which are responsive out there, but I'm guessing you mean Vector (i.e. "the Wikipedia skin"), in which case you're right, it's not (yet) responsive [09:44:39] however! [09:44:46] @ashley Yep, I must use Vector because (it's beautiful) of VE. Responsiveness shouldn't hard to achieve [09:44:50] there is some work being done to make Vector more responsive [09:44:55] the main tracking ticket is https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106463 [09:45:20] and the other related tickets are https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106464 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106465 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106466 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106984 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T106281 [09:45:32] patches as well as comments, suggestions, thoughts and general feedback are always welcome :-) [09:45:57] @ashley Thanks, I'll add my proposal to the discussion [09:46:08] super! [13:44:23] hello, I'm developing a bot which will eventually update the content of a template in specific pages in Commons - is there a dev / sandbox wiki to test the actions of it? For example, where I can create a bunch of pages with various states and run the bot across them again and again? [13:45:05] chippy: Would http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Main_Page work for your purposes? [13:47:06] bawolff: that looks like it would do the trick. lets see [13:47:42] People use it for various testing (like automated browser testing, and testing of gwtoolset before doing mass imports to commons) [13:48:04] keep in mind, it uses a newer version of mediawiki code then real commons, so sometimes things break there [13:49:00] bawolff: many thanks. [13:49:08] I wonder if it has oauth enabled [13:49:44] looks like http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:OAuthListConsumers [13:51:09] great, and I imagine proposing a new consumer registration for all projects would work [13:51:38] will see [14:10:59] hmm, i'm getting an error trying to authenticate with that wiki via oauth [14:11:24] will look at the newer docs for oauth - it's been under rapid development I think [14:15:10] or... maybe I need to propose the oauth consumer on http://meta.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org [14:20:20] hrm, that didn't work [14:20:47] didn't work why? [14:20:55] some error when you proposed it? [14:22:34] it said I needed to be either autoconfirmed group or confirmed group. I confirmed my email and logged out and in again, same thing [14:22:52] Autoconfirmed users, Confirmed users. [14:23:02] the links to those are new pages, empty [14:23:19] thats: http://meta.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/propose [14:25:08] http://meta.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:Preferences [14:25:12] Member of groups: Autoconfirmed users, Users [14:25:51] It just says "users" for me in that bit. [14:25:57] Perhaps my account is too new? [14:26:19] What username? [14:26:23] i can add you to confirmed [14:28:34] Reedy: username is Chippyy [14:29:26] Done [14:31:19] Thanks Reedy :-) [14:50:51] yep, consumer made, requested, authed and api queried, thanks again Reedy [14:51:00] sweet, np :) [14:52:15] chippy: do you need ti approving? [14:52:21] Ah, no [14:53:25] not really, i might do another one once this feature is developed and other people can give it a go, but its okay for now, cheers [15:34:44] hi, i got some trouble with SyntaxHighlight & wiki composer.json missing component, could i ask about it there ? thanks [15:35:29] hi there [15:35:56] can anyone suggest any way to hide a specific page from particular users? [15:43:39] mc_fail: what kind of page are you trying to hide? [16:26:10] afternoon all! I've posted a request on Support Desk but I'm hoping someone here can help with a problem I have with UploadWizard extension [16:28:16] hi Person [16:28:18] !ask [16:28:18] Please feel free to ask your question: if anybody who knows the answer is around, they will surely reply. Don't ask for help or for attention before actually asking your question, that's just a waste of time – both yours and everybody else's. :) [16:28:31] Or in this case, link to your support desk question ;) [16:28:44] You have two crack UploadWizard people in the channel now, so you should get an answer :) [16:29:24] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:Sp2lk2xubbkby4l0 [16:29:34] marktraceur: Y IS IT SO POOPY? [16:29:42] I hope so. It looks like exactly what I need because I want to sort out images quite badly heh [16:29:56] I can provide a link to the MW installation too in PM [16:30:12] Person: Do you have all the dependencies installed? I think campaigns require EventLogging or somethin.g [16:30:29] yes I've got that installed [16:30:33] OK [16:30:35] as per Special:Version anyhow [16:30:51] It's the greyed out "Next" button that is my most immediate concern, I can always pass URL parameters [16:30:55] I'll tentatively believe Special:Version :) [16:31:29] Person: That may be a solved issue, now - try updating the code and try again, we've had a lot of fixes this week [16:35:25] I installed last night [16:35:30] (Euro time) [16:40:03] Oh, h.m. [16:40:05] Hm. [16:40:25] I can upload files normally so I don't think it's ImageMagick [16:40:33] No, clearly [16:40:37] and the JSON module failure is confusing [16:41:00] Person: You get to the very last step? Can you check your browser's network log and console while trying again? [16:41:32] sure [16:43:21] [UploadWizardTutorialActions] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardStep] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardTutorialActions] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardTutorialActions] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardStep] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardUploadFlowEvent] Missing or empty schema load.php:17:964 [UploadWizardTutorialActions] M [16:43:50] :( [16:44:04] Person: Did you configure EventLogging to use meta.wikimedia.org? [16:44:29] Or...hrm [16:44:41] not consciously [16:44:44] I can check that out [16:44:50] I'm not sure we ever thought people would use campaigns outside of the cluster :P [16:45:13] I don't have to use campaigns [16:45:14] happy not to [16:45:18] I just want to use UploadWizard with parameter right now [16:45:34] I did sadly have a Campaign form and template prior to installing UploadWizard [16:46:53] I'll be happy with just the Next button working :) [16:48:31] Well, it looks like the campaign code is biting you in the butt for some reason...or at least its dependencies [16:48:55] any way to disable it? [16:49:22] I believe if you "just" don't use them, and turn off EventLogging, that should suffice [16:50:34] hmm I haven't got a page in the Campaign namespace because of the JSON error [16:52:26] :/ [17:01:11] I worked out what the problem is specifically [17:01:48] It's to do with selecting copyright and not owning the right [17:02:15] the process implies that you can not add a source and author, in that if you leave those fields blank but choose "I don't know" you can proceed to the next page with Next button [17:02:35] However it then won't let you upload past the metadata screen. [17:02:50] If you fill in Source and Author with gibberish, you can then choose "I don't know" and upload as normal [17:04:05] that doesn't fix the Campaign issue but it does the rest! [17:07:17] so I don't know if that's a generic thing with the extension or specific to me but it might be something easily changed (can't progress past the Source/Author part of the form without entering something) [17:10:14] Next question is, why can't I replace the Mediawiki Commons tutorial picture even when I delete it and replace it with my own ... [17:41:08] Person: What's the title of the file you are replacing? [17:41:29] 720px-Licensing_tutorial_en.svg.png [17:42:15] That's the title? [17:42:22] Can you upload a new file to File:Licensing_tutorial_en.svg ? [17:46:56] @Glaisher - I did, but it didn't help [18:19:42] t [18:19:56] Disconnected I guess. [18:20:02] @Glaisher I had to edit settings in UploadWizard.config.php, it ignored the ones in localsettings.php [18:20:10] thanks for the heads up on the file :) [18:37:43] Is there a way using the URL parameters of UploadWizard to specify or pre-populate the name of the image instead of using the file name? I've tried using the ID field and that isn't it [18:38:52] Person I think there is [18:40:15] Awesome @Platonides. Any idea how? [18:41:09] I was trying with wpDestFile, which is the one used by Special:Upload for that [18:41:14] but it doesn't :( [18:42:06] Darn! Thank you though [19:16:44] Person: these are called "campaigns" [19:21:53] Nemo_bis: they don't seem to work outside whatever the cluster is :) [19:23:17] got a bunch of JSON errors despite having EventReporting installed. [21:59:45] If one lost login to the admin account BUT got server access to the server which it is hosted at, how can one restore the admin account or create a new on? [22:02:45] Jordy: with the maintenance script createAndPromote.php [22:02:46] !maintenance [22:02:46] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Maintenance_scripts [22:12:32] Jordy, MatmaRex: Can't you just change your password? [22:14:58] Krenair: oh, i didn't realize we have changePassword.php. heh.
