[02:39:28] Hey I'm pretty clueless when it comes to coding and stuff so how do I do this? I've read up and watched videos but am still lost. How do I get this started and get working on it? Do i need coding experience to do this? [04:37:54] Can anyone provide more info for http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php? Like should i try to resolve those issues in code or? (https://github.com/RXT067/mediawiki/blob/master/RXT067/INSTALLATION_PROCESS.md) [05:09:12] does anyone ever reply here lol i see like 100 people in the side bar but still havent gotten a response [05:19:31] JustusIsServer: m2.. What is your question? [05:26:11] Can anyone provide more info for http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php? Like should i try to resolve those issues in code or? (https://github.com/RXT067/mediawiki/blob/master/RXT067/INSTALLATION_PROCESS.md) [05:31:23] "Hey I'm pretty clueless when it comes to coding and stuff so how do I do this? I've read up and watched videos but am still lost. How do I get this started and get working on it? Do i need coding experience to do this?" [05:31:47] like basically i have no idea how to even start. I saw something about running PHP but idek how to do that [05:32:52] Ive looked up videos on youtube but they all already have it started. Nothing shows me the literal first steps [05:33:44] JustusIsServer: so you want mediawiki on your website? Do you have a hosting? [05:35:23] I'm helping some game devs make a wiki for their game. I would say I do not have a hosting because I'm not quite sure what that is. [05:40:07] JustusIsServed: Hosting is where your website, mediawiki for this case is hosted meaning remote server to save a PHP code to be displayed and calculated.. If you are making a wiki for a game i recommend using fandom (http://www.wikia.com/fandom) They make a lots of wikis for games. [05:41:34] Thats what we were going to use but we saw the Stardew Valley wiki was made using this so we figured we would too. I guess we didn't realize it was this complicated lol [05:41:59] But yea we didn't really want to use Fandom since it doesn't look nearly as nice/clean [05:42:33] JustusIsServer like using mediawiki is simple you just export it to hosting afaik :D i'm just making it difficult for me to use alpha release of new version [05:42:35] So they need to pay to host I'm assuming? [05:42:55] JustusIsServer afaik FANDOM is free since their business plan is to make ads. [05:43:21] JustusIsServer: link to make FANDOM here: http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Special:CreateNewWiki [05:43:44] Yea I mean mediawiki though. So what your saying is basically you just code everything normally and then don't have to pay anything until you host it? [05:45:03] I found this video but he already has his home page pulled up and everything, which I don't know how to do [05:45:35] JustusIsServed: Wikipedia is a foundation those are usually Free and Open Software. There is a licence for Mediawiki under GPLv2 which basically allows you to do anything https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/master/COPYING [05:45:57] I tried opening the index.php file with brackets and sublime but it opened them as html files instead and obviously didnt work [05:46:56] JustusIsServed: i wouldn't recommend trying to edit code if you don't have the knowledge of used code (PHP at this case) in sublime there is a option in downright to select PHP in case it false-detects. [05:47:28] Or as a developer you usually know how to custimize sublime for coding like i'm using macros, additional packages, etc.. [05:47:53] I mean I really would like to learn though, because I'm going to college for web development and plan on going into software later on. [05:48:19] Like if you could tell me how to just get started I can probably figure out the rest by looking it up and stuff. I just genuinely don't know how to start [05:48:50] if you want to learn PHP i would suggest you to check youtube and just try to code in PHP if needed join Developer discord or some open source community and they are usually going to provide you more info that helps you understand the language.. thats how i learn it [05:49:08] oh can i have the link to the discord? [05:49:21] you can also use XAMPP to run the wiki on localhost meaning using your personal computer as hosting [05:50:01] https://discord.gg/programming https://discord.gg/zQCmjC4 etc.. there is a lots of discords for developers [05:50:18] usually discords of linux distros are the most helpfull [05:50:34] since ppl usually have more knowledge and better mentality to provide help [05:50:57] excluding fedora and opensuse lol xD [05:51:38] are either of these linux distros? [05:51:51] no i've provided just developer communities [05:52:08] oh where can i find those [05:52:32] discord.me usually also asking on stackoverflow is very usefull [05:52:59] okay thanks! [05:53:15] nnpnpnp [05:53:43] also do not use books for anything IT [05:53:51] since they are usually obsolete and very outdated [06:10:11] Can anyone provide more info for http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php? Like should i try to resolve those issues in code or? [07:09:32] kreyren: the first line is because a module in your php daemon has been disabled [07:09:45] enabling it might fix everything else [07:11:19] thanks for info, checking [07:11:50] also it seems to be disabled intentionally [07:16:11] Can anyone confirm that `putenv` function is required? So that i can prove it to hosting to request it beeing allowed? [07:40:04] kreyren: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/g/mediawiki/core/+/048b307a0f1df6e8051617c6bfd1891fd02ce1bb/includes/Setup.php#132 [07:40:08] it is required [07:40:28] but if you try commenting it out, most of MW should probably work [07:45:17] @legoktm: commented it and the issue is still present: http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php [07:45:41] then it's a different issue [07:45:48] seems like something is wrong with how PHP sessions are confirmed [07:46:22] legoktm: can you provide more info? note that it's master version of mediawiki and that stable has same issue http://wiki-stable.rixotstudio.cz/ [07:46:42] how did you install PHP? what OS is your server running? [07:47:01] PHP is provided via hosting its 7.1 PHP and its running on debian afaik [07:48:11] http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/version_check.php more info here [07:50:04] so your session path is set to /data/web/virtuals/161195/virtual/session [07:50:10] can the webserver user write to that path? [07:50:30] in /data/web/virtuals/161195/virtual/www/subdom/ i have access to virtual only [07:50:38] virtual and further [07:51:08] actually https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:U2jc2jcy4uofg4v4 suggests that the problem is that your temporary directory isn't writable? [07:51:33] temporary directory meaning? [07:51:41] /data/web/virtuals/161195/virtual/tmp I believe [07:52:23] sys_temp_dir in php.ini is not accessible from the user [07:52:40] checking tmp [07:53:02] dir `/tmp` is not present on the server [07:53:09] should i create it? [07:54:38] http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php created `tmp` dir results in [07:54:50] new err GUI appears [07:55:20] added session dir results in new err [07:55:48] installation seems to work [08:02:12] Waiting for MySQL to be made, but it seems that i'm able to finish the installation now. Thanks! [08:04:31] Installation seems to be finished, new roadblock http://wiki.rixotstudio.cz/subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php [08:06:06] what's the roadblock? [08:06:17] I just see the installer page [08:06:55] `[W-pXgKs9jgkS8m3TcU-nEAAABog] /subdom/wiki/mw-config/index.php Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBExpectedError from line 196 of /data/web/virtuals/161195/virtual/www/subdom/wiki/includes/libs/rdbms/database/DatabaseMysqli.php: Could not select database 'a161195_wiki'.` [08:07:15] not sure if its issue with wiki or my database [08:12:13] trying to resolve [13:16:00] Hi [14:12:40] Hi Rudra [14:19:55] Hello [15:00:43] Hi Rudra, how can we help?
