[18:54:52] qchris, I just had a brainwave. [18:54:56] On the pageview re-view? [18:55:04] Mhmm? [18:55:25] Ah. Shoot! [18:55:26] so, we don't have request logs back to when they introduced KG, in late 2012, which is sad, because we could just look at referrer numbers [18:55:44] but, there was a 6 month delay between them introducing an english language version and them widening it out to spanish, french, german, italian, etc. [18:56:03] if KG is responsible for part of the dent, we'd expect to see a noticeably delay between the english language pageview trends and those for other languages [18:57:28] we can try using a similar trick - taking advantage of implementation delays - for the "site performance" theory; until relatively recently we had the two-week deployment cycle which hit !enwiki first, and then enwiki, so it could be possible to tease out if there's a performance change (or many) and when it-or-they happened from dents in non-enwiki projects, followed a week later by enwiki dents. It may be too small a time period t [18:57:29] o get anything reliable, but we don't know until we check. [18:58:07] (toby mentioned the project to me, I read up on it. I apologise for the resulting bombardment ;p) [18:58:34] mind if I scribble these down on the wiki page so I don't forget them? [18:58:53] (Sorry Ironholds ... I was called to a cake baking emergency ... catching up on what you wrote ...) [18:59:01] np :) [18:59:55] Well ... I did not do much work on dent identification up to now. [19:00:04] I guess this is mostly ezachte and dartar? [19:00:17] But what you write sounds reasonable [19:00:56] The rollout phases of KG should reflect on our numbers [19:01:02] if KG steals pageviews. [19:01:05] indeed [19:01:15] I shall write it down, then :D. [19:01:40] thanks for being a..idiocy check, I guess? A sanity check, but for me being stupid instead of me being mad ;). Now go back to your weekend, and thanks again! [19:02:07] I thank you. It seems like a good idea. [19:02:28] I am sorry that I cannot help more, as I am not too much involved in identifying that dent. [19:02:48] eh, still very helpful :).
