[01:00:21] tgr: hey, i'd appreciate one more review [01:00:37] tgr: i'm not sure if you're off tomorrow, so pinging you now [13:08:39] ho [13:08:40] hi [13:08:45] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_talk:Mathematics/Feature_article [13:18:50] thedj, can you take a look the template code? [13:22:46] no, i'm at work [13:42:44] Hi recently I came to know that apps uses face-detect for its banners. Can anyone from apps tell about the algorithm or the library being used for the same? [16:10:34] codezee: o/ android uses platform built in code for this. https://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/FaceDetector.html (java source: https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/refs/heads/master/media/java/android/media/FaceDetector.java -- there is also native C code) [16:11:39] codezee: i think the only unusal thing we do is that we try to align the photo based on the nose, not the eyes, so we offset by a proportion of the distance between the eyes [16:17:19] hey! anybody on the iPhone app team around? [16:24:10] I'm trying to figure out where this comes from and how to fix it: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Offensive_Wikipedia_search_results_in_Safari.png [16:27:54] JoshM_ maybe this is in your ballpark? ^ [16:28:17] I'm guessing that the problem is at the Apple end, but I'm not entirely sure. [16:29:13] HaeB: maybe you're familiar with how the Wikipedia suggestions work in Safari? ^ [16:39:05] Now on Phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T150541 [16:39:08] ragesoss: today is a holiday in the us and some of the folks are out today (i'm not sure who) [16:40:38] niedzielski: yeah. holiday for me too. that doesn't mean people aren't around! [16:48:33] niedzielski: I see, thanks! I was made aware that mobile web banners do not show faces properly and there's a mood to disable them, so I was looking for a way to implement the same in javascript [16:49:45] the best I think is to use an existing library to detect face in js but don't know if adding another library just for this use-case is better than the overhead of loading it [16:49:55] codezee: that'd be pretty neat. maybe client side javascript? one of things we talked about being perfect for mobile contributions is picking a focal point for a photo. when it's present, use that. when it's not yet present, use face detection [16:51:30] codezee: maybe a good user script to start out with? [16:55:19] niedzielski: detecting faces should be p easy in js using libraries, but how exactly a "focal point" would be defined in a no-face image? [16:56:20] codezee: probably often just the center for a well taken photo. for a picture of a sign or a lampost, maybe it's the center of that. for the picture of a mountain, maybe somewhere near the top? it would be whatever looks best [18:17:25] mdholloway|afk: idm/sludge: https://iamstonefromthesky.bandcamp.com/track/interstellar /cc greg-g [18:21:17] ^ my jam
