[19:16:47] hi do I get help frpm anyone? [19:21:40] niedzielski: hello sir. are you here ? [19:22:08] kaartic: o/ [19:22:38] DiamondCanary63: hello! what project do you need help with? [19:23:10] I am using the android version of wikipedia, I have saved pages for later offline access, but I don't know how to access the saved page later... [19:24:24] DiamondCanary63: you should be able to see the saved page under the main screen tab titled "my lists" [19:24:47] niedzielski: do you remember me telling about how mozilla automate their release of the Nightly browser? [19:25:18] kaartic: i think we talked a little bit about alpha builds and publishing to the play store? [19:28:19] thank you... [19:28:27] niedzielski: yes, you told that, you need to complete the task "Stand up a secure production build server" filed here : https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T136662 [19:28:57] Would it be of any help if we ask the mozilla people how they do this ? [19:29:25] they probably may help [19:30:30] bearND: just now saw that link, sir. Thanks! [19:31:24] kaartic: oh right. this is more a matter of our infrastructure and very specific to the wikimedia implementation. we do have a workaround we could use, just stand up a personal PC, but we'd lose the reproducibility of jenkins job builder configurations. i think we just need to invest time in the task. i don't think it's currently a priority [19:33:11] niedzielski: ok sir. i get you. i just wanted to know if they could provide some helpful info. [19:34:11] kaartic: the problem is that we have private keys we use to sign the app so android can verify it's authenticity but we don't have a way currently to hide the keys in the jenkins build environement AFAIK [19:35:39] i thought they may possibly have a similar infrastructure and the info they provide may be useful. [19:35:42] kaartic: i've been trying to store more CI scripts in the app repo itself and having CI just call them. maybe that will be a pragmatic compromise with a private build server [19:37:38] kaartic: you're welcome to pursue it but i'm a little doubtful. the only question i have is "how do you store production secrets like signing keys securely in a public jenkins build environment?" [19:38:22] kaartic: we also produce partner apks that require anonymity so most of the build process would have to be secure and confidential [19:39:49] niedzielski: ok sir. I'll see if I could get some info from them. In case they ask anything about infrastructure, I may have to contact someone here. Would that be ok ? Or is it better to drop this ? [19:42:14] kaartic: my preference is not to pursue it at this time. i also don't want to discourage folks from making good contributions if they really believe in it so the choice is up to you but i think efforts would be better spent elsewhere. another alternative that might be worth pursuing is just adding an alpha flavor to the F-Droid builds [19:45:05] niedzielski: ok sir, i'll take your suggestion. I'll drop this for now. In case at some point in the future, you think the info would be useful just let me know. I'll gather it on your behalf, or let you contact them. Adding the alpha build ti F-Droid is a good option too, sir. Could that be done, when time is available ? [19:46:41] kaartic: there's no task for it currently but i think it would be fairly low effort. i'll make a task momentarily [19:48:27] niedzielski: ok, sir. BTW, something else I just recently noted is, why aren't the options for "Sharing, Selecting a different language, Finding in a page, Adding to reading list" removed from the overflow menu since they are now accesible from the bottom access bar ? Don't they seem redundant ? [19:49:58] kaartic: i agree. that's mostly covered in T146049 i think [19:49:58] T146049: [BUG] Overflow menu should not repeat duplicate actions available in the article toolbar - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T146049 [19:50:52] kaartic: task for Alpha F-Droid builds: T153706 [19:50:54] T153706: Add Alpha app to F-Droid - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T153706 [19:54:17] niedzielski: seems i missed that task (i actually didn't search for it :) ). Have a great day, sir. see you later. [19:55:03] kaartic: thank you for your continued help!! [19:55:15] kaartic: too many phab tickets :] [19:58:47] niedzielski: Sorry, for suddenly filing. I often stack what I find and file them when I find time. :) [19:59:16] BTW, it's my pleasure sir. [19:59:21] kaartic: no trouble at all! we're happy to have your help :] [20:00:26] niedzielski: ok sir, see you later. have a great day. [20:00:40] kaartic: seeya! [21:53:53] dr0ptp4kt: are you OOO the rest of today? [21:55:12] maxbinder: i'll be at the meeting in a few minutes
