You only signed up for flu shots. [20:13:07] maxbinder: voter fraud [20:13:11] rigged [20:13:37] (good last minute topic addition tho) [20:21:00] kristenlans: under da wire [20:22:19] maxbinder: you were supposed to vote three time ;-) [20:22:37] jaufrecht: need to check....will let you know tomorrow [20:26:24] kristenlans: whoops, misunderstood, thought approval voting [20:27:07] maxbinder: yeah sorry, I coudln't think of the name fo the one that isn;t approval voting :-) [20:27:14] That might have made it clearer [21:12:05] 06Team-Practices, 10TPG-FY2016-17-Q2-LE-Metrics, 07Epic, 15User-JAufrecht: [EPIC] Establish metrics for Light Engagements - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147354#2766309 (10JAufrecht) [21:19:58] "dot voting" is how I normally hear it referred to [21:33:20] 06Team-Practices, 10TPG-FY2016-17-Q2-LE-Metrics, 15User-JAufrecht: Build a list of things TPG uses Light Engagement Survey data for - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149850#2766406 (10JAufrecht) [21:34:16] ggellerman_: oh yeah, and welcome back. [21:39:46] jaufrecht: thanks :) [21:39:47] meeple27: can't easily find a formal name. it's not "weighted voting" exactly because that means a system where some voters have more weight than others. we are talking about a system where each voter gets multiple votes to be distributed freely, including multiple votes for one choice, but fewer votes than total choices. [21:40:19] nice table of merits of different systems at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_system#Compliance_of_selected_systems_.28table.29 [21:41:04] I suppose the most thorough way to select a voting system would be to throw out all of the criteria that don't matter for the purpose (e.g., we don't worry about tactical voting in TPG team meetings or other high-trust situations) and see what's best of what's left [21:48:53] 06Team-Practices, 10TPG-FY2016-17-Q2-LE-Metrics, 07Epic, 15User-JAufrecht: [EPIC] Establish metrics for Light Engagements - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147354#2766495 (10JAufrecht) [21:49:46] 06Team-Practices, 10TPG-FY2016-17-Q2-LE-Metrics, 15User-JAufrecht: Build a list of things TPG uses Light Engagement Survey data for - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149850#2766406 (10JAufrecht) [21:59:55] 06Team-Practices, 10TPG-Essential-Functions, 15User-JAufrecht: Document proposal for "org change facilitator" role - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T146695#2766550 (10JAufrecht) 05Open>03declined On ice indefinitely pending clear organizational demand. All the feels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gasAm4DIVsg [22:03:21] jaufrecht: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dotmocracy [22:04:54] lol that's awesome maxbinder [22:05:36] awjr: I can't decide if it's shitty that it's a commercial for a game, but I think that's just that advertising is inherently shitty and can still be art [22:05:52] :p [22:14:34] maxbinder: we'll find out tonight! A miracle 108 years in the making or another f'ing loss [22:15:11] let's all pray for the correct outcome. [22:15:55] I'm not clear on the invisible pink unicorn's stance on sportsball [22:16:57] I hear that the flying spaghetti monster is more of a soccer fan [22:17:12] meeple27: should I invite you to the Editing Offsite Retrospective at 1 pm PT tomorrow as facilitator? [22:18:00] maxbinder kristenlans: "cumulative voting", by the way, is the correct term, as per Kevin's discovery [22:18:04] jaufrecht: erm. I now have a conflict at 1:30 [22:19:10] nataliaharateh: Do you have any interest in faciliating for editing? [22:19:36] * meeple27 realizes she might already be gone [22:21:55] meeple27: ah, but she will be awake long before the rest of us snoozers. She lives in the future, after all. [22:22:26] * meeple27 notices that it's 2222 UTC right now [22:24:58] New term to be used during Teatime voting: "plumping". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumulative_voting#Plumper_votes [22:28:31] ggellerman_: totally plumped the IRL ballot [22:35:05] I am still here! I can take that - do you have any special retro format in mind jaufrecht maxbinder? [22:35:53] I don't think so, just straight + and -. I had a great idea for another element but I haven't been able to remember it. If you have format ideas, great. [22:35:59] I will extend the invitation. [22:37:03] ok, thanks jaufrecht [22:39:04] kristenlans: I approval voted what I wanted to stuff the ballot box for. Totally legit :) [22:39:14] plumper! [22:42:48] thanks nataliaharateh (again) for stepping up and jumping in [22:44:13] jaufrecht: where was the offsite held? [22:44:19] (idle curiousity) [22:44:37] Seattle [22:50:29] 👍👍👍 meeple27 [22:50:54] jaufrecht: I meant more specifically (and feel free to reply offline if that's more appropriate) [22:51:38] Seattle Art Museum (a conference room in the basement) and Seattle Public Library (a conference room on the 4th floor) [22:53:09] The SPL room was normalish but the hallway was very Architected. http://www.minimallyminimal.com/blog/2012/4/24/seattle-central-library.html [22:54:07] In a way that reminds you of why very few "science fiction" designs or car concepts become mainstream: they are deeply impractical. The hallway was unpleasant to walk through and a massive echo chamber, so we had to keep the door closed at all times. [22:56:01] design folks (and I'm including architects there) who ignore function give the whole field a bad name [22:56:51] jaufrecht: btw, I added a few more items to planning offisites, from the retro notes. I couldn't help myself [22:57:29] a lot of the library design was positive but plenty of details were not. Another was the custom jamb and frame of the bathroom door that made it look like it swings out when it doesn't. little touches that make an architect happy but everybody else unhappy. [23:13:48] From that library page: "Escalators are universally finished in a fluorescent lime color. The single-file design along with the backlit panels makes it an almost a psychedelic experience. " [23:14:15] yup, that's exactly what I'm hoping for in an escalator experience. Single file and psychadelic. [23:14:55] Next slide on that page: "The library only has escalators that go up though. To get down, you have to take the stairs or the elevator." Who paid for this thing???
