[14:27:34] * tos pokes halfak [14:27:54] hey tos. [14:28:14] Morning, halfak [14:33:31] G'morning. How's college life? [14:34:03] Awesome, as always. You tell me how you are [14:36:23] Not bad. I just got back from vacation in the Caribbean. [14:36:40] This morning is my first morning hacking in about a week. [14:40:27] Nice! [14:40:33] How was the caribbean> [14:49:00] Nice and warm. :) I got a lot of reading in. [14:49:25] Sorry for the delayed response. As you might imagine, coming back online after a bit resulted in a lot of pings. [14:49:48] I know already. Too many pings from people who realise i am back :) [14:49:58] haha. You're "back" then? [14:50:07] Or was it just this trip into IRC land? [14:50:13] Well.... Errr..... [14:50:17] Uhm.... [14:51:19] I'm trying to get "some" editing done [14:51:35] Without letting my college studies be sidetracked [14:51:42] So you could say I am back [14:54:14] Gotcha. That's awesome. I'm a fan of balance in this regard. Some prefer to allow extremes to control such decisions. [14:54:49] Balance is hard though. I'm glad you still wanted to come back after the time away. [14:57:44] Wikipedia is awesome. Why wouldn't I want to be back! [15:01:46] I agree. Though some people are unlucky to have only seen a bad side of it. Also, there are lots of other awesome things worthy of your time and attention. [15:02:17] From my own personal perspective, I can't agree with you more. [15:03:07] More awesome than the biggest encyclopedia in the world? Naah. I find plenty of new and awesome people here too [15:03:20] So what hacking are you up to now? [15:06:22] Mostly docs. I'm getting the results of an experiment I just ran with the Growth Team up on meta. This involves re-running some of the analyses which is the only reason it should be referred to as "hacking". [15:06:41] That and battling the massive email wave I have incurred. [15:07:04] (y) [15:07:08] good luck with it [15:07:26] Say, did you ever come up with a proof to your solution to the bomb grid? [15:07:50] Never got to try it [15:08:19] Even if I did try, I have insufficient experience to "prove" that [15:09:31] Gotcha. If you sketch your algorithm for me, I might be able to recommend a proof structure to you. It's been a few years for me, but I ought to be able to at least give you a structure to work with. [15:10:09] sketch my algorithm? [15:13:57] what does that mean, halfak? [15:14:39] Yeah. This sometimes manifests as Psuedo-code, but can work in prose as well. For example, I described my greedy solution to the problem to you over gchat last week. [15:15:22] Okay. So what do i do? [15:19:51] Send me an email with anything from runnable code to prose discussion of your algorithm's strategy. It's helpful if you tell me what properties you think it has. For example, what are the critical problems to solve and how does your algorithm manage to do it efficiently in the worst case scenario? [15:21:26] I think the properties part is trivial [15:21:50] k [15:22:10] The algorithm seems very intuitive enough to me [15:22:21] But I'll do the other write up part [15:27:17] Cool. Is this for your own edification or part of an assignment/class project? [15:27:44] own. Started off as a simple problem to illustrate greedy algorithm in class [15:28:00] And now I'm hellbent to find the BEST algorithm [15:28:01] :) [15:28:08] ha :) [15:28:11] Cool. [15:31:12] be back in a bit. [15:32:17] what happened to using halAFK, halfak|AFK? [15:48:11] Though clever, I though that halAFK was a tiny bit confusing. [15:49:03] It was? [15:51:28] I thought so. [15:51:52] Argh!
